Hi Puha...my daughter and I have had the band surgery. She had hers first in July and then she went with me to have mine 10-3-08. We went to Mexico for ours as neither of us had insurance that would cover it. Good luck and it will be fine. We drove fm KC, MO to El Paso and the shuttle picked us up at hotel and took us directly to Angeles Hospital in Juarez. It was a wonderful experience and much, much cheaper than we could have had it done here. Anyway, I think the fills are extremely important and make sure you don't get one too soon or too much. Otherwise, it has gone ok for us.

With a smile, :mad::tt2:

Please, rethink your position on the doctor of choice. He runs them through so fast, like cows through a milk barn, that he finds very little time to give good post-op care. My daughter had it 18 months ago, did ok, but had some air leak into abdomen (life threatening, yep) put on meds and in hospital for 4 days. She had to be hospitalized several times (seriously about 9) last time just before Christmas. He did not bother to show for 28 hours, but was at hospital several times because he was paged. He does not take the pain that some have very seriously, in fact tells them it's normal, will go away. My daughter vomited all the time and ate hardly anything. Sent to hospital for malnutrition, loss of weight too fast (130 lbs in 7 months), severe pain and could not change doctors because NO OTHERS WOULD TAKE BAB'S PATIENTS!!! Her last trip he said she was fine. Nothing is wrong. This was Dec. 19 through 22. On Jan 3, 09, she awoke at 8:45 with severe pain, vomiting violently, lost consciousness, never regained it, and died at 9:30. In forty-five minutes we lost our only child, 31, an RN with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and followed all the rules. But good ole doc said, "you are ok, there is nothing wrong." See you live in Elkhart, well, we live in Palestine. Want to check it out, call the hospital and inquire. No, no one at Palestine Regional did anything wrong. But everytime she had to go to emergency room or be admitted they immediately transferred her by ambulance to Tyler because she was BABINEAU'S patient. The main surgeon here in Palestine, apoligized once for not taking her and we did not want her to go back to you-know-who. Think it over ma'am. It could mean the difference in your's or your daughter's life.

Dear Cautious,

OMG! Just read your post re your daughter's death. I am so sorry! How horrible for you and your family. I did not lose a family member, but a friend to medical Dr. & staff at JFK hospital in W Palm Beach, FLorida. She, Kim, had been banded in Mexico and that is where I met her 10-3-08. She was banded same day as I and her fills were too soon and/or to much. Things went downhill very quickly as within 1 wk of her fill she had to be hospitalized and they punctured a lung during operation to remove band and one thing after another from Thanksgiving Day until her death the morning of New Years Eve. Just can't believe all of the stupid things that happened. We think banding was ok, but fill Dr. in states started the downfall. Her husband has gotten an attorney and they have a malpractice suit going. Doesn't mean much as Kim is gone, but it is scary how some of the so called Drs. can just keep working.

I know there is nothing I can say to help you, but pls know that I wish I could.

Thank you so much for your kind words. One thing you may be able to help me with is (if this is allowed) the name of the firm or attorney handling your friends case.

If this is not allowed, please accept my apologies.

Hi. I'm sorry I don't know the attorney's name that is handling the malpractice suit on behalf of my friend as she is in Florida and I live in Missouri. I'll bet you can find a good attorney by googleing that type of attorney in your area. Then possibly checking your county government offices for current litigation. not sure of the website there for such things, but it's probable that just asking someone at the courthouse would know their website and maybe even have some suggestions as to names of attorneys that have built a reputation. Just some ideas as to how to find a good attorney. Good luck in your endeavors and again, sorry for the loss of your daughter.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
