Venus1969 0 Posted January 7, 2009 I was banded on Sept. 4 and have lost 37 lb. so far. I was hoping to have hit the 40 lb. mark by 4 months, but I definitely didn't watch what I ate during the holidays!
*slim* 2 Posted January 7, 2009 i also had my surgery in Sept. and i have lost exactly 30lbs. i'm glad to see ppl around the same number b/c i swear i was behind the 8 ball...i do feel pressure from my family who somehow think i'm supposed to be dropping 10lbs a day ...geez...i didnt gain the weight overnight its still gonna take some time even with the band...i am gonna jumpstart a bit after the holidays and try the 5 day pouch test.. Are we related? I promise my mom and my aunt call me everyday to ask how much have I lost? I have to tell them the same amount that I had lost a month ago! I have lost 36 pounds (including preop loss). I thought I was going too slow, but I figured slow was better for me in hopes of keeping it off.

alteration 0 Posted January 7, 2009 hi, whats the 5 day pouch thing?
*slim* 2 Posted January 7, 2009 The pouch test is basically supposed to be a way to tell if you need a fill or not. It is basically a modified liquid diet. If you do a search either on this board or google it, it comes up. It is like 2 days of liquids then 2-3 days of solid Protein. Several people who do it realize that they don't need a fill because their portion sizes go down after doing the full 5 days. There is a thread on here about starting the holiday detox early. There is a link to the pouch test in that thread.
lotzasunshine 2 Posted January 7, 2009 I was banded in July and was about where you are, I seem to be a slower loser.
*slim* 2 Posted January 8, 2009 It is a slow process. Even though they talked about that a lot during my pre-op classes, it didn't really hit me until I was not dropping weight like a hot potato. I guess I wanted it to be different for me. It's not. I am learning to live with the slow loss. I hope that because it is coming off slow, that I won't have as much trouble with loose skin later. Losing_It_In_Texas 0 Posted January 8, 2009 I had my surgery on 9-22-08 and have lost 31 pounds since then, and 48 total (lost 17 on pre-op diet). I too feel like I am going so slow, especially the last 2 months. I have only lost 2 lbs since Christmas Eve, it gets a bit frustrating at times. I usually lose whatever weight I'm going to lose that month during the first 2 weeks after a fill then its up a pound down 2, up one down one...etc, etc. It will be 5 weeks beween fills for me this time and I'm struggling to hang on to the 9-10 pounds I lost this month....ugggghhh! I'm afraid that I will have gained at least 2 pounds of it back before I get to the doctor next week.
BeckyinTn 0 Posted January 8, 2009 (edited) I was banded on Sept. 22 and so far I have lost 30 lbs total. I am happy with it considering we just went through the holidays! I will be honest and say that I ate things that I knew I shouldn't if I wanted to lose more than the 2-3 pounds this month, but with that being said the reason I chose lap band over Gastric By-pass was because it still allows me to eat small portions of the "bad" without getting sick. I don't want to feel that I am depriving myself. I was on one of those types of diets and needless to say it did not work for me.I don't like diets that tell me that I can't have anything "bad" not even a taste of it because for me that just makes me want it more! Once I reach that point I will end up going off of the diet and eating a bunch of the "bad" stuff and gaining more. I am going to amp it up so that I can be under 200 when I turn 45 in May! That is a promise I have made to myself! Becky Edited January 8, 2009 by BeckyinTn
*slim* 2 Posted January 8, 2009 I have gained and lost the same 3 pounds several times over the last few weeks. That really gets frustrating. I know I would have gained a lot during the holidays had I not been banded. I am happy that I didn't get RNY, but I think I still wanted the same weightloss. I will learn to live with that. If you are then, I am not that much ahead of you. I lost 17 of my 36 pounds on the pre-op diet. I have only lost 19 pounds since surgery. Even with that, we are only supposed to lose 1-2 pounds per week. We are still ahead of the curve. If you are still having problems with portion size then get another fill. If you are too tight, make surethat you aren't eating slider foods (soups, ice creams, cookies) because those will make it more difficult to lose. You are not alone. We are just going to have to be patient about the weightloss. You are doing better than you think. Edited January 8, 2009 by *slim*
