Getting thru my first week.

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. I am 5 days post surgery and have lost 12 lbs so far. But starting last night I become soooo hungry I couldn't sleep and have also been incredibly nauseous. On the hunger front I know I need to just hang in there for another week but does anyone have any suggestions on how to help with the nausea? Thank you so much for any advice!

Finding this site has been such a blessing.

Hi laplrn, call your surgeon and see if you can get some anti-nausea meds. If you are taking pain meds, that can be causing the nausea.

Also, because I was doing very well, my surgeon let me go a bit faster than I expected on the post-op progression to more solid foods. Perhaps your surgeon would give permission to try something a bit more substantial to see if it helps the nausea.

Hope you feel better soon!

I was going to say the same thing. I am on day 5 too. My recovery has been tough but I think it would have been much worse if I couldnt have had at least a shake etc.

I was only restricted to blended foods, thank goodness and there were a few times where I hadnt eaten and felt very sick. Once I ate something small I felt 100% better.

We need some Protein to heal inside so maybe you can get approval to eat something, at least shakes.

Good luck

Hello-

I was banded on 12/30 and supposed to stay on Clear Liquids for a week. I called the nurse at the hospital and she said to add 1/4 c. Protein Shake every 4 hours and it has helped tremendously! Call your nurse or doc! You don't need to suffer!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
