Hello! I just have a few questions about my post op diet

1. Does anyone else have problems with milk products? Im thinking that's what made me sick to my stomach for awhile this morning.

2. Does anyone eat baby food as part of their post op diet? I'm on my full liquids now until 14th and on my list from my surgeon I have cream Soups, yogurt etc. and baby food is more liquid than yogurt so I was wondering if anyone has done this just to change up the taste a little.

3. What Protein Drinks do you all find to work the best?

Thanks so much!

Baby food has a lot of sugar. Plus it tastes horrible. :tt2:

Some people get lactose intolerant with WLS. Sometimes it's just temporary. I have it a bit. I can't drink more than 4oz of milk without getting cramps. But Lactaid solves that.

Oh I forgot to answer about the Protein drinks.

I find this is very personal. Stuff a lot of people like, I might hate. Stuff I liked last week, I hate this week.

Right now I love Chike. It is whey and soy and that seems to work better on my tummy. I've loved it for two months so I think I'll stick with it.

Hi,

According to my list the doctor gave me, after week one I go onto soft foods, mash potatos, eggs, that kind of thing, and baby food was on mine also. I actually love banana Baby food since I was a kid, but can't find myself trying other stuff. I start my softs on Wednesday. I was banded on 12/30/08. They also had tofu, low fat refried Beans, and fat free cottage cheese on it, so I'm actually looking forward to it. The protien shakes were fine pre-op, but now I'm just not interested in drinking anythig, which is very bad I know..

Good Luck.:)

I did not have issues with milk products.

Yes, I used baby food and still do after getting a fill. Baby food should not have any additives including sugar and salt...at least not the brands I used (Gerber and BeechNut) so it is bland right out of the jar. I add spices and it tastes just fine. It is just the right consistency, the large jar of meat and veggies along with a small jar of fruit was just about right for serving size and it is very convenient. It was on my approved list and there really is no reason why it would be a poor choice.

3. What Protein drinks do you all find to work the best?

I used Atkins at first then I switched to Worldwide shakes because it had more Protein. Worldwide are dairy based so they may not be a good choice for you if dairy is making you sick...

- I Haven't had any problems with milk, I've only tried drinking it a couple times, I am sticking to Water though, it seems to be doing better for me for now. Try adding propel flavors to your Water if you don't like water.

2. Does anyone eat baby food as part of their post op diet? I'm on my full liquids now until 14th and on my list from my surgeon I have cream Soups, yogurt etc. and baby food is more liquid than yogurt so I was wondering if anyone has done this just to change up the taste a little.

- I did not have baby food on my list, but that is fine, as long as it is soft and you eat it slowly, you can.. I however I have been on liquids since a week before my surgery, I was banded on Dec 22. I go to my follow up tomorrow, and tomorrow starts week three.. I had cocktail shrimp on thursday and saturday, it was wonderful i only had like three each time. I also had a slice of cheese, as long as you chew it up its fine. Shrimp is soft, and its pretty much fat free, cheese too, low carb. From our doctors our week three is when we can start the mashed potaotes, grits, and things like that. Youre doing great... I read some people who are eating rice on week two so.. just becareful and have soft stuff. baby gerber banana is good, and vanilla custard, but the sugars are whoa. Get sugar free Jello pudding, very good.

3. What Protein drinks do you all find to work the best?

- I use Designer whey, chocolate. It's great! I love it.

- Good luck! And congrats.:)

I don't have any problems with milk.....I really like Achieve One for protien. I put a Mocha or Hazlenut flavored one in the blender with a splash of sugar free French vanilla Creamer and 5 ice cubes...it's like a frapaccino. I have one of those every morning.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
