I had my surgery on 11/11. I know what you mean about falling back into the old me. I snack a bit too much too. I really try not too, but it is hard to break old habits so quickly. We just need to be mindful of the band and try to follow the rules as best we can. You, and I, can do it!

I can relate for sure! One thing that really rang true for me was getting my first fill, it was painful even with fluoro and that was when I decided the only way I was going to get another was if they numbed me first - voila much more comfortable! I have had two more fills since then that have been numbed first.

I should also say that I had a regular port for the first 5 months and then on November 19th I had a port revision and now have a low profile port.

So that being said, there is no shame in getting a numbing shot first before you next fill - I was very adamant about it when I spoke to my surgeon and he finally understood how painful it was for me.

I understand about losing focus and I struggle every day. I try to just track my food intake, exercise - even if it is only for 20 minutes at a time.

Good luck, be assertive with your needs in regards to your fills and take good care of yourself

I ear you Rosemary! Im exactly were you are! I was band on sept. 8th and have lost about the samte amount as you. I fee restriction only in the morning, but for the rest of the day its like my band is not even there. Sure I eat less then I used to, but Im sure I eat more then Im supposed to. Im going for my 4th fill this next week, and I have lost only 5lb since the last one who was in october. I don't want to go because Im affraid of the reaction of my surgeon. I have a question though what is the 5 days pouch diet? and to Babbs what is a low profile port?

Hi Rosemary and Sweetie,

a low profile port is a smaller and thinner port (at least that is how my surgeon described it), I had a port revision because the regular port was too large for the area under my ribs, it caused me continuous daily pain for months, I couldn't sit in a comfortable posistion, I couldn't sleep well at night and was generally unhappy with it.

The new port is great, I do not have pain at all and am a happy camper these days!

Hi...the 5 day pouch diet seems like a kick start plan

1) liquid Proteins for 2 days...like shakes ,broth ,soup,sf pudding etc.

2) day 3: soft Protein like tuna , eggs, fish (all you can eat comfortably in 15 minutes)

3)Day 4 : turkey ,chicken ,fish. same as above

4)Day 5 : all types of meats, fish same as above.

no drinking while eating...no snacking etc. worth a try..

Glad your feeling better with the new port...i think mine shifted and they have a hard time finding it...i may give it one more try but if it isn't easier and less painful i'll insist on an evaluation of some type. Thanks Babbs.

Do they knock you out for a port revision in the hospital? Or do they operate on you in their office?

Rosemary...

Yes I can relate! I was banded on 6/26 and lost 30 lbs by 9/16 (my second fill). I had great restriction for 2 months ad lost another 10 lbs, but then the floodgates opened around Thanksgiving and I felt like I could eat pre-bandlike! It took 5 weeks to get an appt with my surgeon for a fill (she said it was a fluke and that it should never take that long). At the appt on Monday I had gained that weight and then some back and I was hesitant to go too because I knew I would be fatter again. She was understanding though and I am straightended out now with good restriction and I have already lost the excess weight in just a few days back on liquids (YAY!) It is always best to just go and see the doc again, remember, if they have been doing this for a while then they have seen it all...including people who have had WLS and GAINED weight temporarily. You can do this!

I can definately relate. I had my surgery on 10/02/08 and have lost 24lbs. I am snacking too much and don't exercise. I was walking until I fell, then I had t orecover from that and just haven't started exercising again yet. Do any of you go to support groups? I haven't been t oone yet. They have them at a hospital close by but I didn't have my sugery there. I know I probably can go but once I get home i want to stay home. Can anyone help us? I have had two fills. The first was 2cc and the second last month was one cc.

Hi Rosemary! Let me know if this works for you. I had my first fill on December 30, 2008. I have only lost 1 pound since going on solids. I feel like I am more hungry since my fill than I was before my fill. I was thinking about going back on the shakes for a little while.

Smiles

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
