Has anyone experienced severve gas pain in their upper stomach, and if so how do you get rid of it. I have had my lap band for 14 months now and am experiencing this discomfort.

If you are that far out, and having severe gas pain, I would talk to your doc about antigas meds. Talk over your diet with your dietician as well, maybe something you are eating just doesn't agree with you any more...

My doc gave me the approval for Maalox/Mylanta. I bought the liquid stuff. I'm only like 4 weeks post-op though. I agree I would talk to your doc!

I have noticed lately that if I eat too fast I will get gas pain in my left shoulder. 2 GasX usually help. I am 9 months out. If I slow down, I am fine. But if I eat or drink something too fast it hurts.

I am 3 years out and I still get severe gas pains avery so often.

I had an EGD and my doc gave me a scrip for a bit of acid that he saw stuck on my esophagus(sp.). It helped me a lot. He said it is very common with one who is banded.

Of course it is also what you are eating too.

I get terrible trapped gas and that is caused from Beans, broccoli, and cauliflower. It is very hard for me to stay away from any Beans. I never had a problem until I was banded.

If you are just out of surgery, gas is a common thing. They pump you full of CO2 to expand your abdomen to be able to operate easier. Unfortunately, gas works its way right up into the shoulder and settles there. Walk, Walk, Walk, Walk. Also use Gas X strips.

Walking moves the gas around.

After my hysterectomy 4 years ago, I had horrible gas pain. But I did not walk. After the lapband I made sure I walked alot. I had very little trouble. I think I took a Gas X once or twice but had very little trouble until now. I know it is that I am eating or drinking to quickly. When I eat slow - no problem. Quick - killer gas pain in my left shoulder.

It is most likely from surgery since you are just a few days out. You may want to try to drink a little slower if you think you are drinking fast. Walking is your best bet.

Gosh...I'm so sorry that no one at the hospital told you guys about the gas pains residing in the shoulders! AFter my surgery they actually put me on the heart patient floor (the one they go to after ICU)! The nurses were all so sweet and said that because lapband is so high in the abdomen that we have the same sorts of side effects as heart patients. The CO2 is supposed to absorb into your blood stream....but works better if you move around, i.e. walk.

Also, my doc sent me home with an RX of acid reducer. It was a yummy liquid that really seemed to help. I have a little left over and when the pain in the shoulder even creeps in a little, I take a swig of that RX stuff!!!:)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
