Can I cheat from clear liquid to full post-op?

Recommended Posts

I am really surprised with the people encouraging going behind what a Doctor orders. I guess everyone is different, but I paid 16k, and We are given laws to live by for our own healing and weightloss. By following orders to the T I have lost 75 lbs in less than 4 months. I only have 55 lbs left to go. Think long and hard before starting to cheat on your band. Because it can be cheating you out of greater success in the long run.

You can do it. And when the 2 days have passed you will feel stronger and better about yourself. This is all part of the process, it will be over before you know it.

Hang in there!

I hate to disagree with the doctors and the others on here, but I think a Protein shake would do you lots of good. When I had surgery in July, I was allowed to begin full liquids on day 4. That was the turning point for me. Once I had Protein shakes and creamy Soups and yogurt, I felt great, had plenty of energy, etc. I say go for it. I only had to do one day of Clear Liquids before surgery. I imagine you're starving.

So you're a doctor?

If you have a Starbucks nearby..their Protein Vivanno drinks are a wonderful change of pace!!

The grande (medium) is 270+ calories. If it was me I'd avoid that like the plague. Drinking your calories is bad.

With low fat milk it's only 250 with 21 grams of protein!! For those of us on the liquid only after surgery it was a nice treat. Carnation instant breakfeast, any whey Protein and Slim Fast all have 200+ calories per serving and not near as much Protein. My Slim Fast Optima has 200 calories and 17 protein grams...for the 50 extra calories I got a bunch of extra needed protein. I probably won't be drinking my calories after I am released from liquids.

For sure, check your surgeon...but I was on Clear Liquids x 1 day, then liquids for 2 weeks (tomato Soup, Protein Shakes, etc.) I tolerated all just fine. I was dying a few days before I could go to mushies and called the doc. They ok'd me one meal of mushies with the rest liquids.

By now you are now ok to drink your Protein shakes...but if you feel like you need more, don't hesitate to call your doc.

Good luck!

Call your doctor and ask. He is the one with the expertise. We are only your peers and are all in the same boat.

Please, call you doctor. He may say it is ok.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
