pre-op ekg question

Recommended Posts

I'm having my preop tests done tomorrow. I'm wondering if the EKG is a stress-test or a resting EKG. No one has ever said. I've never had the stress one done, and my achilles tendonitis has been acting up for the last week. I'm worried I wouldn't be able to run on a treadmill. Can anyone tell me what kind of EKG is usually done during preop testing? Thanks.

I also was laying on the exam table and it only took a couple of minutes to do the test once she hooked me up.

Yep me three...lie down on exam table...they stick the leads on...you lie there and stare at ceiling, at room, la la la, and then they are removing leads and you say "that's it???" easy breezy! I removed my bra but kept my shirt on.

An ecg and a stress test are very different tests. You'll be fine! Even if you HAD to have a stress test, they can do it by elevating your heart rate etc with drugs instead of making you physically run, if necessary.

Well, thanks again. You guys were right. It was a resting ekg. I laid back in a reclining chair and they put the sensors on me. It took about 5 minutes or so. Piece of cake!

The worst thing was the barium swallow! I really thought I was going to spit the alka-seltzer-like crystals out, but I finally swallowed them! And that nasty chalky barium-yuck! But I lived through it, and now I'm on my way to having my surgery finally. Yeah!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
