Need recommendation for RI nutritionist

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I was banded in Oct and was going to a nutritionist for a few months. I am in the process of looking for another one and was hoping that I could get some suggestions and names of nutritionists who are able to work with a lap band patient.

Also, am looking for support groups. I know there is a monthly one at Roger Williams, Miriam and RI Hospital but I have not gone to one yet and would love any input anyone may have

thanks for you help:wink_smile:

Hi VeeJee,

I was banded on 9/15 at the Miriam Hospital. I started out seeing the nutritionist on staff at the Miriam, but just didn't relate to her so I sought out another NUT based on recommendations from bariatric friends in RI. I see Heather Gagliardi of Netrition, Inc. She is on Taunton Ave., in East Providence. She is GREAT! Matter of fact I go back for a follow up this coming Saturday. I also attend 3 of the 4 WLS support groups that I know of in RI. The Miriam is held the 4th Tue of every month - lapband starts @ 5:30 / general WLS @ 6:00-7:30? There are 2 at RW - One is held the 3rd Wed from 7:00-9:00. The other is the 4th Thurs from 6:00-7:30. I know there is one at RI Hospital as well, and it is held on the 1st Wed but I don't know the start time, as I don't attend it.

Good luck with your journey, and let me know how things go for you! Let me know if you'll be attending any of the upcoming support group meetings!

~Vicky

Hi Vicky,

Thank you so so much for this info. I've am going to call the nutritionist that you are seeing (Heather) tomorrow and make an appointment. I also want to attend the support groups as I haven't gone to one yet. I'll let you know which one I end up going to... maybe we'll end up there at the same time.

Thanks again:smile:

I go to Nutrition Consultants on 308 Cowesett Ave,West Warwick, RI 02893; 401-885-6629. They also have a support group the first Wednesday or Tuesday of the month depending which day is better for you. Even if you only use them for the support group they are wonderful! Its not like Roger Williams, or Miriam this is more Lap Band patients and is more open forum. This really makes for more direct time one to one with folks who are experiencing the same thing you are going through. I would recommand this support group to anyone that has had Lap Band.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
