I need to be more mindful I know! It's just frustrating when I see that a woman that I had my classes with pre-op has already lost 50lbs with bypass in 8 weeks. I know I chose this band for a reason and I knew this all before but I can't help feeling a little sad for this.

Can someone fill me in on ALL the reasons not to drink while eating? I know what my Doc told me once but can someone remind me?

At my seminar they said we can't have rice or pasta... It clumps up.... I don't care about the Pasta but I do love rice. Even wheat rice.. Like the wild rice. Has anyone tested this theory out? Lol

I'm a firm believer in doing what your doctor says. I also believe in question authority! LOL

We were told that, once we were THROUGH the healing phase (1st 6 weeks) we could have Pasta if we cooked it well. No al dente, because it continues to swell.

My doc doesn't ban any food, he bans snacking. I've have 3 fills, have mild restriction, and can eat rice fine. However, I will have a bite of it, then a bite of something else, etc (always chewing well of course). I read somewhere that breaking up foods like rice and white bread by eating different textures in between each bite can make them go down more easily. I don't know about that but I can eat rice and white bread fine so far....and well done pasta.

Yeah I'm totally about following what they say but I was just wondering about what everyone else is allowed. I love steamed veggies and I love wild rice with that. Ill ask him or his assitants later on to see what I could do. They don't want us drinking 30 minutes before or after meals... It says to let the food settle in our stomach and to just feel the fullness od the food instead od washing it through with liquid... Which makes perfect sense.

Those were the two main things I could see me having problems with.

Do you eat salad restless? How does that go down if you do?

I want my wild rice tho....even just two teaspoons full in my veggies would work.

I would think wheat products like Pasta and rice would be ok. It has a different consistency.... And has nutrients. I'm going to ask them about that and maybe talk to my nutritionist. He talked to me right before I was leaving the hospital all drugged up and I hardly remember what he was telling me.

Is v8 juice cosidered clear liquid?

I haven't had a salad actually...don't like Salad Dressing much and they are more a "summer' type food to me ! LOL (or diet) I have had all kinds of veggies though with no problem. I think if you put the rice in with something you'll probably be fine but do ask, don't go on my word! LOL Our doc says no drinking 15 minutes before, during, (and eat in 30) and then 15 after. I'm glad I don't have to do 30...going without that liquid is WAY harder than I thought it would be!

My doctor says to try (again, once past healing) ALL foods we like. He also says if we have one we love and can't eat it, to wait 3-4 months and try it again. So it's possible that initially you may not be able to eat your rice but later you can. My doc's attitude is we'll make healthy choices but eat "normally"....just WAY WAY less. No carbonation (because of the gas, I think...it does bother most people) but otherwise, he doesn't "Ban" anything..OH yeah, no chewing gum (but that isn't food, is it? LOL)

Clear liquid is something you can see through. So no, you can't see through V-8. It's not a clear, therefore.

Try not to get discouraged while you are in 'bandster hell'. Just remember that you are learning how to eat again, and that you don't have the restriction you will have eventually. Take this time to learn to chew well, and to eat meals without drinking. That was the hardest aspect of all of this for me. I just came from my Doc's office and was discouraged that I had only lost 6lbs this month. My Dr. reminded me that it was the holidays, and that bad habits aren't going to go away overnight. He said I was being wayy to hard on myself. So.. just hang in there, and don't be too hard on yourselves either. Make sure you get your Protein and drink your Water. The rest will fall into place once you have proper restriction.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
