I'm lost, please help!

Recommended Posts

Well I had my six month anniversary Oct. 23, saw the surgeon and he says I'm right on track. I started at 278 and am currently at 247. He told me from the get go 1/2 lb a week is normal. I've only had one fill, and I think I have restriction. In my visit I was thinking I would get another fill, but he wouldn't do it. He asked if I still felt rest. when I ate and I do, so he said if he puts more in, I'll def. be puking. (I haven't yet). I can't eat more than a cup of solid food, and Pasta bugs me, so is that still good restriction?

Also I have been really slacking in the excercise dept. I started a class that was everyday in the mornings and then i worked at night, so there wasn't much time. NOW< class is over and I have put ON 6lbs. over the holidays. I'm so frustrated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I haven't gained until now. I know that when I don't excercise, i make poor food choices, but I haven't in so long that I'm scared at how out of shape I'm going to be again, starting all over!

All of the cakes and Cookies I've been baking and making, I feel like I can't stop! I can't believe the crap, and junk I'm eating, for the first time since being banded I feel hopeless! AND GAINING! I really need support, Is there local support groups? I feel like I need more accountability. Although this forum is wonderful, sometimes I need physical accountability kwim? This has turned into a vent, but man do I feel bummed! Any help to get me back on track? Also is my band really tight enough? I can't believe I still have restriction after all this time?

Thanks everyone! Happy New year!

You just made it through the hardest part of the year! Think about how much you would have eaten and gained without the band!

Time to refocus and get back on track. Don't beat yourself up over it. Get started today making better choices and if you have to, do some cupboard cleaning!

Sign up for a new exercise class - you won't be the only person starting over again, think of all the New Year's resolutions being made today! Pick up the phone or get to the gym, just get it done, no excuses.

Do you have a local support group? If not, maybe you could ask your surgeon if there are others he knows in your area that you could connect with. Heck, post on craigslist, you might find that there are others in your area that want to meet one time a month, or that would like to have a support person. I know that I enjoy support group because they all know what I am going through and it helps to have the face-to-face accountability!

Good luck!

Don't give up now! We all fall off at times and usually the holidays are the high time. I've had a bit of a struggle these past 2 weeks just because I've of how busy we get and have so much food around us and so much socializing. Think about the things that you were doing when things were going good.. ( for me it was keeping my food journal and being very structured in my meal planning)

If you feel strong enough to do a few days of Protein shakes or hi protein/lo carb days that will help jump start your system again and for me that is the motivator. You'll feel good just being in control again.

I know excercise is tough sometimes but just start it out slow again and you'll be back to the same pace as you were. But don't throw the towel in just because of a small set back. Think of what you've accomplished so far don't focus on the setback. The changes we are making are a slow process but that is all part of this. As far as the support groups go, check with your doctors office for one local to you. Usually the hospital where you had the surgery done is a good resource.

Happy New Year to you - what a perfect time for us to put ourselves back in check. I will be starting today to keep my journal again, stay high Protein, and make sure that taking care of myself is one of my priorities.

Back on Track

We have all been there, trying to sabotage ourselves for some crazy reason. Me, too, I put on 14 pounds from Thanksgiving to Christmas.

I decided enough was enough, I was NOT going to let this continue, so I threw out ALL the leftover goodies and started did a 2 day liquid diet. Then have slowly introduced more solid Proteins, and stopped the slider foods.

I have only lost 2.5 pounds of the 14, but I am headed in the right direction.

What we need to do is not look backward, but get our butts in gear for the New Year!! Begin exercising again, watch what you eat. You can do this...WE CAN DO THIS!!!

I am going to commit to 3 days a week of exercising (it is my plan for that to up itself to 4-5 times a week whenever possible). Just don't give yourself an option, just make it part of your day, and soon it will become the norm again.

It is frustrating to slide back, but just think what would have happened without the band??? We now have a tool in place that WILL work for us, if we work with it....

I am going to go downstairs right now and open the Sweating to the Oldies DVD that I have had (unopened) for over 3 months... thank you for your post, you have given me even more determination to NOT give up...

We will be fine, we want this, so let's go get it!!!!

Good luck to you, post again to let us know how it is going.....

thank you all for your kind words of encouragement, I really needed that! I'm going to get back to the gym tomorrow morning, and just start slow, some moving is better than no moving! I just wish I knew more people in my area that are going through this, I know they are out there, just gotta find them!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
