Lightheaded, anyone?

Recommended Posts

Hi there! I was banded just a week ago (Thursday, July 21st). I'm at the non-clear liquids stage (cream Soups, yogurt, Atkins shakes, plus gatorade, Jello, broth). I've been back at work since Monday (desk job). I've been logging my intake and am getting between 500 and 1000 cals a day. Starting yesterday, I've been getting lightheaded even though I'm eating til full and drinking enough Water. I'm not running a fever, the band seems to be fine. Has anyone else experienced this? I am not diabetic and do not have high blood pressure.

are you sure that your calories are totaling that much?

Im sure Im going to get lots of raised eye brows, but during the liquid only phase - ONLY a McDonalds shake would satisfy me. I had one a day, and was happy. Lost 12 pounds in 2 weeks too.

My lightheadedness post op was lack of Protein, once I added a couple more Protein Drinks I was fine.

Paula, everytime I go in for a fill I stop at the same McDonalds on the way home from TJ for my shake. I drink them during my liquid phase after a fill...they are very satisfying

I round up on the calories so I don't fall into denial about how much I'm eating. I've lost 15 lbs in the past 2 weeks (one week prior to surgery and one week after).

Lack of protien, lack of calories. I had it too. And yes, I drank a milkshake or two...oh yeah baby!!!! Go for it. If you feel guilty, take it home and put it in the blender with a scoop of protien powder.< /p>

I had terrible lightheadedness and sometimes still do. I'm not sure what it's about. I had PLENTY of calories and PLENTY of Protein too. I attribute it to many things, one this is a massive change for the ol' body and that can be a cause. Two....well, even tho your bp isn't high, it can still get lower. I do have high bp but it's really gotten low already. I think sometimes I get a bp dip. And three....now that your are eating better and more healthfully, I think the ol' blood sugar has to work itself out on how much insulin to release and when. Just takes a while for the system to get back in synch.

Just my .02

I had lightheadedness every morning about 10:00. I never had it in the afternoon. I did eat Breakfast (if you can call it that, I was on full liquids). I attributed it to my high blood pressure meds but in retrospect I know that wasn't it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
