Had surgery today-Now I need some favors please.

Hello,

First, I wanted to say that my surgery went great. No problems at all. I do have some pain, especially in my left port side but overall it was good. Whenever i swallow my Water it kind of sits there, i can feel it cold in my esophegus. Then I burp, a lot...is this normal.

I also have a question or request of all of you.

Would someone be so kind as to share their weekly options or food choices for newly post-op? Not the mushies but the liquids?

I think I need to plan an hourly plan right.

If anyone has any time can you shoot me off a sample menu? Or to a site that I can check out on my own...

Poodles you really really need to do what YOUR doc tells you because we are all different. Mine, for example, only wanted us to have Clear Liquids the first week...no Protein shakes at all. So I had Water and broth. Period. We "could" have SF popsicles but I didn't want them. I wanted food, not a sweet treat. (that's just me though) Week 2 he added in Protein Shakes (praise be. that kept me alive! LOL)

I had absolutely NO problem drinking liquid although I did burp a good bit. I didn't chug it, but I could get it down fine. So I didn't need to keep it on hand and sip sip sip etc.

What did your doctor tell YOU to do?

I burped a lot initially after surgery.

I agree, you need to follow your doctors specific guidelines.

Mine required me to do Clear Liquids for 2 weeks after surgery. That meant no V8, no shakes, etc...

Clear broth, crystal light, Water, SF Jello were a few of my options.

But...every doctor is different. Did yours give you anything to follow for post-op?

1 question- I still do that and i have nothing in my band and have been banded 5-6 yrs now. I hate the feeling it is weird feeling lol. :)

2 question. It's been years and it wasn't really planed out for me. Sorry I can't help. I didnt read the replies but I am sure you'll find plenty of people to share!!! Everyone is so friendly and helpfull! :)

My doctor told me clear liquids for two days after surgery. Than Soups, thicker liquids for like 3 days (protein shakes blended items) Then Mushies for like a few days. Then on to regular food, Its been almost a year so I dont remember exactly how many days of each. But I hate alot of yogert, Tomato Soup, cottage cheese, shakes

I was banded a week ago today. Finally feeling better! I was a disaster. I am drinking alot of yogurt smoothies. 10 g of Protein too. I am on liquids until next Thursday eeekkk.

I have had hicups every day. Is this normal. Help!

Instead of broth I like chicken stock, it has a lot more flavor. Also I added 1/4 of a seasoning packet from Ramen noodles.

I was just banded Saturday so I'm on clears for 5 days. My instructions were to aim for 64 oz of Fluid a day (seems to be hard for me) broth, tea (no caffeine), Water, jell-o, optional-diluted juice (apple, grape, or cranberry). Clear Protein drinks are OK and it specifically says Isopure and unjury, and Protein Water. My husband went to Rite aid and found some "designer whey" protein waters, 20g of protein in the 20 oz bottle. More then the Special K with 5g per serving. It also says if you have headaches, feel light-headed or shaky to drink some Propel. Days 6-10 I can add Natural Vegetable juices and Protein Drinks mixed with water. Of course like everyone says listen to the rules of your surgeon but I thought I'd share.

Glad to hear you're doing well. I WISH I was burping more, it just feels like I have a lot of gas waiting to get out!!!:wink2:

HOw are all of you that were just banded feel? I have to admit this was much more invasive than I expected. I am bouncing back. I go back to work ( teacher) Monday, and I am just hoping to have the energy. I feel like once I am on mushies I will have more energy...

I liked the Isopure for clears it has 40 gms of Protein per bottle and I like the taste of some flavors I dont like the protein milk based shakes so for me the clear is better, now on mushies 2 weeks later but still drinking a bottle of Isopure a day too

I was allowed to go to Protein Shakes the next day. But you you can get creative with the Soups. I was told Soups with my Protein, so I added a chipotle and lime juice to some chicken broth and ran it through the blender. Did the same with beef. Another time I put italian seasonings, anything you like to spice things up.

And on your first question, I still burp. Make sure you drink slowly and aren't getting a bunch of air. That is my biggest problem. I was also advised not to use a straw. Good luck and hang in there.

I was banded yesterday. After surgery I had clear chicken broth, 11 oz is what I could manage the entire day. Not too much pain, but its hard to bend or stand.... Not sure anyone else is experiencing this. Today I'm having jello....it is taking quite a while to get down though.

Anyway, I'm happy overall, but resting. For the next 3 days my doc said to have clear broths, Jello, and popsicles. Then I can have cream Soups for 10 days, then mushies.

INFANTS MYLICON drops!!! You will feel so much better!! It helps with the gas like you wouldn't believe. I thought it worked even better than Gas-X strips. I did 4 droppers of the Mylicon like every 4 hours...still working and starting to feel that pressure ease up on the inside.

My doc had me do clear liquids (broth, SF popsicles, juice & boost) for 7 days and then full liquids for 7 days (applesauce, cottage cheese, mashed potatoes, pureed Soups and SF pudding) Today I can start "mushies" or fork tender items like soft meats and vegetables. My doctor would not let me do jell-o up to this point - unsure why that is, but whatever. Kinda "scared" of real food right now because I got choked on some full liquids once by taking too much at once and it hurt to go down. DON'T want to do that ever again.....yuk! The hardest thing for me is to get all my liquids in and not wanting to drink while I eat. I will have to practice small bites, too, because I have always been a speed eater. Good luck on your Quest and I wish you much success!

I had to burp a bit after surgery and found it really uncomfortable -- but that got better pretty quickly!

I put pictures and recipes of foods that I had in my full liquids phase on my blog (link below -- those posts are from late Oct/early Nov), in case you're interested. I found that being creative about what I was eating really helped me to stay on track. The Soups whose recipes I posted were easy to make and really yummy. My favorite was the one with chicken & chiles.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
