Hi my name is Kelly and I live in Illinois. I had my band done on July 18th, and I am down about 18 pounds, but now I am hungry and I can eat some normal food. I see my surgeon next week, but I don't like that I can eat and get hungry.

Of course you are normal

You have no fill, the band is designed to be filled to get restriction to works at it's best capability. Without a fill of course you will want to eat and get hungry sooner

Do not get discouraged.

You have averaged 3 lbs a week since surgery.

Any weight loss during the pre fill ( healing) phase is a bonus.

Did your Dr. not tell you that you will get hungry during the pre fill stage? We all have been where you are at during the healing phase with no fill. Once you start getting your fills you will see how the band really works

Hang in there :)

for me that was xactly what happened!ive heard they dont fill the band since you are going to swell and they want you to comfortable and allow healing, once the swelling goes down they will fill the band and you will usually feel much more restriction.it may take a few fills or more sometimes to get the restriction correct...

also remember you will get hungry and be able to eat all kinds of foods still, jjust much smaller proportions.a lot of foods wont agree,it will take time to figure out the"bad"foods:) good luck!

Thanks for your input. I am just excited to know that you are all here through all of this and I finally figured out how to do a thread. I will be joining a support group at the hospital that I had the surgery, but it is nice to know that you are all here!!! THanks.

Plus, I am the first person at the hospital to have this done, but the cool thing is my surgeon had this surgery on him the day before Thanksgiving and is down 102 pounds. He did give me the ok to move into mushy foods, but to take it easy as not to puke during the healing stage.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
