Did I stretch my band?!

Recommended Posts

Okay I'm really worried about my band. usually I'm really restricted on what I eat but in the last few days I noticed that I've been able to eat more food than usual without feel that 'fullness.' I can still feel where the port is on my stomach so i know it didn't slip but my mother thinks i might have stretched it. If i did, can this be fixed without me having to go through the whole process again? I'm trying to think of what I did to make a potential stretching happen. I don't overeat alot, but I do drink diet soda does that matter?

Is your surgery recent?

sounds to me as if you're ready for a fill. Getting hungrier sooner and not feeling satisfied as you did eating the same amts as before are the signs- unless you're still in your "healing phase" and it's too soon. Just call your drs office.

I went today for my post-op check...12/18 was my band date. I asked my surgeon all about the pouch stretching, and suture ripping senarios and was told in the 20 years of practice that would be a first for them and their 1800+ patients. That was good to hear.

So I guess whenever in doubt give your dr a call, all the advice we are getting from here there and everywhere (yes even moms) isn't always the best or most correct.

I know I will!

Did your surgeon tell you soda is ok? If not, don't drink it! Odds are you just need another fill depending on when you got your last one, how long you've had the band, etc. Best bet is to check with your surgeon!

You should have your doctor do a barium swallow. You probably just need a fill, but I have a dilated esophagus so I know the since of panic you feel. I was overeating and drinking soda. The carbonation in the soda can cause your pouch or esophagus to get bigger. My doctor said that if you feel the need to drink soda to let it sit until the carbonation is gone. Hopefully it's just that you need a fill, but I would definitely have it checked out.

Sounds like a fill, as stated. I had fill last week and for 4 days complete restriction and woke up 5th day and could eat kitchen sink, lol! How frustrating it is, I know, but I still have 4 months left of free fills so its back to office next week (after I eat my thru New Years) jk, I will exercise to off set all the goodies!

Hope a fill gets you back on track.

I just received my fill a few weeks ago and I notice that at certain times of the day, food will get stuck and sometimes I can eat fairly well...I have no clue why but some days I can eat and other days I can hardly eat anything without getting stuck...I can't eat anything in the mornings it seems but in the afternoon I can get some food down....not sure if this helps but it's weird too me... It seems as if the tightness of the band is always different.

You can never stretch your band, but you can stretch your pouch with carbonated beverages like diet pop and regular overeating.

I would agree that it sounds like you might need another fill but I am not sure how much you have lost, when you have had fills or what kind of restriction history you have had. If you have been losing weight over time, you may have lost a little fat around your stomach which will make your band feel looser.

Should'nt be drinking the soda! So I was told anyway.

I find that if I drink something hot tea/coffee, before my morning meal, then I don't get stuck, and if I don't, then I can barley eat in the morning. Not sure why.

I really don't drink soda mostly juice which is full of sugar. I am a carb queen and I'm ready to cut them after my first fill since food will get stuck and I don't want to vomit

Why wait for your first fill . . . there is no time like the present :)

Just do your best, keep following your post-op instructions and remember that most people stall out on weight loss around this time so don't be too upset if it happens since it is normal and even expected.

As long as you keep following the plan and start working in exercise you should find success.:)

Yes I am staying on plan but I'm not sure what not to eat after my fill. I'm guessing I won't be able to eat too much anyway

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
