LapBank Newbie - Banded on Dec. 1st, 2008

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

Well I did it, I was banded on Dec. 1st, 2008, after waiting for about 2 years, due to insurance not covering it, my new job's insurance plan covered it in full! So far since the day of surgery I have lost 18 lbs. Wanted to see if that is good, bad, average, etc.

Also I am having a hard time eating meats. I think a lot of my problem is I am eating to big of bits and to fast. Not sure and was curious if anyone else has had this problem.

I get my first fill on Jan. 22nd, 2009. I have noticed a huge change in the amount of food I can eat. I also have found that I don't crave certain foods and its not all about food anymore.

My goal is to lose 140 lbs total, but 160 would be even better. Just want to make a realistic goal.

Well just wanted to say Hi and see what others have experienced since being banded and see if anyone has any suggestions.

Thanks - Jennifer

Thanks for posting Lucy. Yah I have been paying more attention to my chewing and have slowed down my eating as well. So far things are working better now.

I am a little frustrated because I am stuck at a lose of 20 lbs. I haven't had my first fill yet but I have been at 20 for about 2 weeks now and can't seem to get past it. I haven't gained anything back just can't seem to lose.

Anyone have any suggestions.

Jennifer

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
