Feb 11th 2009 Bandsters?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone I haven't written in a while but thought I would do an update. I have been scheduled for surgery on 2/11/09. I am having a colonscopy and upper GI done on 01/9/09 to make sure everything is ok there. I feel very overwhelmed right now with making all these pre- op appts and post op appts and getting ready for this huge change in my life and wondering if I have made the right decision. I'm excited and scared of what this new life will bring. But if you are having surg in feb I would love to hear from you I really need a mentor right now......thanks :tongue2:

I just got back from the doctor's office and I was told my date would either be february 4th or the 11th. I honestly had no idea I'd be picking a date today! I went in for my weight check up (I had an Upper GI done earlier today too) and the doctor basically sat down said good job on the weight loss went over a few things and then nodded and said "Ok, go down the hall to my assistant and schedule a date" to which I said "What?" Guess I wasn't expecting that! I don't even have insurance approval yet!

But I did as I was told and looks like I'll be getting it done in early february! I was honestly thinking march/april and this will sound dumb but actually picking out a date makes it seem so much more...real. It's quite... something, I'm not sure what it is, but it's something!

When I called and they said we have Jan 28th open I was like...is there something a little later than that? I wasn't expecting it to be so soon! So now I am thinking I have to start my pre op diet soon and almost freaking out about that because I just have this fear of loosing my food...like having a big cheesburger and taking a big bite of something its like I will never be able to do that again....you having any of these thoughts? great to talk with you!

I do have those thoughts, and I go through my daily life just thinking "how am I going to do this after I have the band." Being at work and going to lunch was so easy, just get to the car, drive to some place with food and eat it. Soon it won't be so easy and I wonder if I'm up for that, or if it will be too hard.

But then I stop and think about how being fat is too hard. Going to someone's house and wondering if the furniture will hold me, knowing I can't go on amusement park rides, hearing someone laugh behind me and always wondering "are they laughing at me" (I know they're probably not, but I always wonder)... that's hard. And it's not worth it. This will be hard, and it will be worth it. I think that's what makes the difference for me.

I new here, but I'm sending good wishes for all. I have the Endo & Colonscopy done in the am, right now I'm sooo hungry, but kinda sick also, anyway I have one more consult w/nutritionist hopefully today or Fri. then paperwork sh/be on it's way to ins for approval. I'm guessing that the end of Jan will be my date, that's the timeline the Dr is giving me. Like you said, it's so exciting but frighting also, this fat will be gone! I won't miss the cheeseburgers, pizza etc. I keep telling myself that because it will be so different. Just as long as I'm not so hungry all the time like I am now. I'll keep checking back so I hope all goes really good for you. Take Care,

My surgery is tentatively scheduled for February 25th! Can't Wait! I am nervous but in a good way. I stopped smoking 3 days ago and am doing well with that - hard - but doing well. I haven't heard about any GI tests I will have to have but I learn something new at every month's weigh in. I know I have to be on a liquid diet 10 days before surgery. Not looking forward to that.... Blessings to all of you before me. I look forward to reading your posts about your surg prep and surgery itself.

Hi Everyone. I just got my band date of February 24th today. Like everyone else I am so excited, and so nervous. It is interesting that someone mentioned not being able to take a big bite of something anymore. I thought of that too. Funny how we value things that are harmful to us. There is some basic satisfaction we get from a big bite. I am ready to say good bye to that though, and hello to a bathing suit!!!! Anyone know which airline has teh smallest seats because I plan to book a flight for February of 2010!!!!

HEY HEY HEY!! I just thought I would stop by here and extend my best wishes to anyone getting banded on 2/11. That is my banding date and could very well be the best date anyone could get banded on. :)

I might have to check in with you just to see how you're all holding up too - making sure you are sticking to your liquids like a good bandster should.

Remember, that is for healing - not so much weight loss. Stay positive and stay strong. Bandster life is rough, but the results are so worth it.

I have a tentative date for my LapBand on Feb 10. It seems that things are just falling into place and moving along quicker than I thought they would. I sure do have thoughts about not being able to chow down on a big steak dinner...BUT...I can still have the steak...just not as much and chewing real well! I have to keep thinking about how miserable I am at this weight and how I know that this will work...with alot of work on my part, too! I see it as being a chronic nail-biter and then getting acrylic nails. In no way would I bite the nails that I paid good money for! The same with the lap band. I do not see myself sabotaging the plan just to have the steak or the burger...mmm! (bg)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
