Hello everyone!! Happy Holidays to all. I am six months away from my surgery. The final straw that may me decide to get the surgery was my 2 airline trips(2008) this year. It was the most uncomfortable and embarrising for me (5'11'' at 370lbs) The seats are for 175lbs and I was not cutting it. "Enough is Enough... no more excuses or extra airline extension belts"

Hi Wayno. Welcome to LBT. This is the right place to be. You can get lots of information here and meet lots of nice people. Most of us have been on that same plane trying to squeeze into that same seat and that same seatbelt. It is not fun. Congratulations on making the decision to get the band. Keep reading posts and asking questions. Good luck to you and keep us posted on how you are doing. Becky

I was 405 and 5'5"...I just quit flying once I topped 350. I feel your pain! There's too much life that passes us by when we are very large. People say "go ahead and live"...well, yeah right, except when you can't FIT. It wasn't being shy that stopped me! LOL

I LOVE my band and hope you too are as happy and satisfied. I've lost weight over the holidays and never once felt deprived or "on a diet". It's like a miracle! :)

Hi Wayne,

The six months will feel like a long time at first, and then, like me, you will be starting your pre-op diet - - I start my preop tomorrow, after starting with a medically supervised weight loss program in April 08. I have surgery scheduled on 1/12, with Dr. Ren, at NYU. I see you are in NY - -where do you plan to have the procedure done?

Good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
