bandit1951 0 Posted December 28, 2008 Over the last couple of years I've given thought to bariatric surgery, but thought it was too invasive. Now, after a lot of research, I've decided I want the Lap-Band. I contacted my insurance company, Care First, BCBS and they told me over the phone that they cover Lap Band, but I want to talk to someone else there. I live in DC and plan to go to George Washington Medical Center and work with Dr. Brody. I hear his bedside manner is rough, but he's a good surgeon and I want a successful surgery, not a friend. I have been in all kinds of programs, lost about 50-60 pounds, hit plateaus or just wasn't ready for success, and eventually gained it back. I'm 57 but everyone says I look about 45. I'd like my body and energy to match my face. I'm happy I found this forum. I feel like I have my own personal support group.
MacMadame 81 Posted December 28, 2008 Welcome to LapBandTalk! I hear you about wanting a successful surgery. I also picked a surgeon that other people think is "mean". It was a concern because bariatric surgery requires a lot of follow-up and after-care to be successful and I didn't want someone who would piss me off so much that I would stop doing the after-care program. But after I met him, I knew we'd get along great and it's all worked out.
