I am being banded on Tuesday 12/30 and I am now in a panic. I am doubting my decision to have the suregery. I have had such an easy time with the pre-op diet, I am thinking why not just do this? I know the answer. I will not continue to do it without help from the band. It seems like such a major change. Please tell me it is going to be worth it. :hurray:

Yes, it is SO worth it. I had the same feelings, even as I was being wheeled into the OR, I was about to scream stop, I don't want to do it. I think everyone feels this way, and it is normal. Even right after the surgery, you may still feel that way. I did for about a week. I felt so horrible and I even had a crying spell. But my feelings quickly started to change when the scales moved and I started feeling better. You already know you can't keep it off without help, none of us could or we wouldn't be here. You know it is the best thing to do. Stay strong!

I'm still a "pre-bandseter" myself, but I have to agree, stop and think about where you have already been and how you got to the surgeons office to begin with.

If you just gained some weight and are looking for an easy way to lose it then yeah I would think twice.....but if you have been fighting with your body for years and came to this discission then maybe this is just a case of cold feet.

If you are having success with the pre-op diet then just think how much futher along the band is going to help you to get.

Good Luck!!

I haven't been scheduled for surgery yet, but I received my approval letter on Christmas Eve... I'm having the same feelings. I've been doing well on the pre-diet, but I realize that I can't keep it up for long periods of time. I'm just as nervous, but I know this will be the only way I'll be able to lose that Extra person I'm carrying in weight...

Stick with it - I'll be there with you very soon... Just wanted to let you know that I was feeling the exact same way. You are definately not alone in this...

I have been feeling the same way since startign the opti slim shakes but the reason for the surgery is because i couldn't stick to any thing for long. Stress would come into my life and i would ever eat. I am getting banded on the 9th of January.

You are all sooooooo right! I was banded October 20 and even had regrets upon waking up from surgery...but it was just the jitters from not knowing how things were going to work out. The band is a tool, it's not magic, and you still will have to do the work. BUT it enables you to stick with it by no longer being a slave to hunger, and by being satisfied with less. It's the least invasive way, and very effective long term. While statistics show that bandsters don't lose weight as quickly as gastric bypass patients, they also show that long term, bandsters do reach and maintain their goal weight. If you have truly tried to stick with other diets and have not succeeded, the band just might be the tool that will work for you the best. Take heart...everyone gets cold feet, even afterwards. But for me, it's been SOOOOOOOOO worth it!

You have done well on the pre op diet becasue you have the end goal of the operation in sight. In the longer term you would go back to eating the way you did before if you decide not to go ahead with the op. Second thoughts are a natural thing. I was banded on 6 November and don't regret it for a minute, although I lost 28 lbs on my pre op diet I knew that I needed a long term solution. I have lost over 40lbs now and am not hungry.

Good luck, and if you are really not sure about going ahead right now, you can defer your op until you are certain its what you want to do.

You will not regret the surgery a bit. Yes, this is the best move I made. 4 mo. today and lost 35 lb. and I do eat but not much. You will learn what you can eat and what you can't. Good Luck. Jean:thumbup:

Hi Sheesh-

I am being banded on Dec. 30th, too! I am a little nervous, but more excited to be done with the surgery and on to my new, healthier life! I looked at the photos of me this Christmas, and I know I will not be so unhealthy next year. Good for you to do well on the pre-op... I have had a terrible time of it. Are you on Clear liquids the next 2 days to prep for surgery? I am and I am super hungry!!!

It will all be worth it- I am here to chat anytime!

I'm up for surgery tomorrow...scared to death. I think I'm more scared about something happening during surgery than I am scared about the band itself...I hope this too shall pass..Good luck!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
