For those wondering about flying...

Recommended Posts

I've seen ppl post about this before... so I thought I'd let everyone know, it's NO PROBLEM.

My doc said not to eat 2 hrs before take off, so I didn't. Also, on the flight I did eat (since it was a 6 + hour flight.) I drank 5 oz of orange juice and a few hours later had some chips.

I would say be careful but go ahead and enjoy traveling!

It is not that you are NOT able to fly, it is just the air pressure tightens your band and make it difficult to eat when you are flying. Just double check your doctors advice before you fly.

I was reading a few horror stories concerning flying the other night. I plan to speak to my Dr., but would love to hear from anyone with solid knowledge. I have been traveling to West Africa two or three times a year and plan to go again in a few months. I can't imagine not eating for 24 hours (including transport and layover which allows no time). I also cannot imagine getting there and needing an emergency unfill as I read happened to a couple people. What would I do???? I am hoping this is very rare and guess I just want some assurance from people who have travelled far.

I just got back from a trip and I was worried about going through the metal detectors and having to explain or get wanded during the holiday crowds. No problem. And no problem with tightening on the flight either. Everything went smoothly coming and going.

I will say I noticed on the way back I was pretty tight for a day or so and may have been tight after I arrived but don't really remember.

I ate 1/4 of a small burger before flying and I tightened up so bad I was MISERABLE on the plane. I stayed tight for about 36 hours after. I did not eat anything before coming home and did not have a problem.

Could you drink anything on the plane? :) I am flying in about 3 weeks. I never have heard of having any problems. I even asked the doctor and they said everything should be fine. Now I am getting worried. Thank god it is only a 5 1/2 hour flight.

So you were able to eat on the plane? What did you have? I am flying in 3 weeks and you all have me worried. Although my doctor seems to think there will be no problem. The nurses there that have the band say they have never had a problem also.

I've flown since being banded, and I've noticed no difference whatsoever. My band is not super tight, so that may make a difference, but I was able to eat and drink normally on the plane.

I asked and my Dr said I absolutely would not have any problem flying all the way to Africa. I'm wondering though. Heis sending a ki with me in case of an emergency while I'm there in April. I haven't asked him yet what I'm supposed to do with it LOL!!!

I'm going to Scotland in April, and I plan on getting unfilled before I go. I have heard too many horror stories, and I don't want to be miserable for my trip! lol

I have a 'tight' band, so weather changes, barometric changes, etc. will affect it. I did not drink anything on the plane after I got super tight. It is just one of those things, that you just won't know, until you do it. I DO suggest that anyone who flies not eat beforehand, just in case. If in flight you are feeling fine, then proceed as normal. JMHO.

Sorry, a kit with a tubular needle in case of needing an emergency unfill.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
