Starting the holiday detox early, anyone wanna join me?

Recommended Posts

Been banded since Feb 2008 and I lost 6 pounds over the holidays, sorry you gained. If you want to go on a diet, farbeit from me to stop you, but if diets worked we all would not have needed to be banded.

It appears lots of people feel the same way you do, so Good luck.

Wow... so what is it like from up on high in your ivory tower looking down on mere mortal folk? :)

Hi Brandy!

I'm in too. I have a dinner thing to go to Mon PM so that will be tough. I'm just planning to do the best I can.

I haven't gained but I've gotten off track just by eating stuff I haven't eaten in months, let alone since last year at this time! (MIL's Christmas Applecake, FIL's homemade fudge, peanut brittle, Cookies, etc.) I'm a little worried about stretching my pouch too. Seems like I'm eating too much at one time.

I'm having a really hard time with the exercise. This time of year just sucks for that. Work is going to be getting busier with tax stuff and that's just exhausting!

Anyway.

Thanks for doing this!

good luck all~~~

I had my first morning of liquids. Why does Protein Powder have to stink? The shake I made didn't taste bad at all. I just had to remember not to inhale the smell before taking a swallow. Good luck everyone!

I'm getting to this thread a little late, but I would like to join you guys. I need, really, really, really need a jumpstart. I've heard so much about the 5 day pouch test, and often think of doing it (story of my life - THINK about doing things), but I am ready to actually do it. I'm a little behind you all, but ready to start. Hang on tight!!!

What an awesome idea to start of the end of the holiday season before the 1st of January. I wish I could join you after gaining 2 pounds over the holidays but my OB would have a cow.

The 5-day pouch test diet is really wonderful. I have gone through it before and it really helps get you back in the banding mindset. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to get back on track since there is nothing I have found that works better.

Good luck to everyone today.

Printed off the 5 day pouch test steps. Working on my grocery list, now. F-I-R-E, Fire Up, Fire Up, Fire Up (I used to be a cheerleader in high school - back in the thin days where I thought I was fat)

Unless you have little to no restriction why are you having to go on a special diet to lose weight you gained over the holidays? I didn't get banded to eat wildly and gain weight then go on a diet -- thats what life was before I was banded.

As you get a little further along in banding, sometimes you need to increase motivation. If you read this diet, this is a special diet for our pouches post WLS. It is really helpful for both our bands and our mindsets to get back in the banding frame of mind . . . and you may lose a few pounds on it as well which is definitely motivational as well.

It isn't dieting for dieting's sake and many of us who have even made it to goal use it as another tool to stay on track . . . just like our bands are a tool, sometimes we need to sharpen it when we get complacent. Everyone gets a little complacent as life goes on since we are all human.

I just read on a newbie post regarding ability to get in enough Protein or liquids that you mentioned eating Meximelts from Taco Bell at 4 days after surgery to help with post banding depression.

It is true that banding reduces your intake and that many people can lose some weight without dieting and eating anything they want.

However, those of us who have long term success and our able to maintain it for the long term have to commit to following banding rules and post-op diets, eating healthy foods, trying to eliminate depression eating, and occasionally recommitting to our band lifestyles through "diets."

I wish you the best of luck for your long term success with banding.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
