I was just banded on 12/22. Any suggestions or tips on how to get through the first couple of weeks? I am supposed to be on liquids the first 10 days and really want to stick with it but could use some tips on what other people have done. It is nice having a forum to go to to talk to others who have gone through this!:tongue2:

I just did what my doctor said. I learned the hard way. I had Clear Liquids for one week...that was a no brainer. At least 64 oz of Water and clear broth. That was what I was allowed, essentially. Second week I got to add in Protein Shakes (thank goodness!) Just don't eat anything until your doc says YOU can (different posters have different diets!) and you'll do well. It's HARD...so be gentle with yourself, but tough it out! It will pay off and be so worth it!

For me Isopure clear Liquid Protein drink was the best way to get my Protein its 40 grms of protein per bottle, also sugar free Jello. Another thing I do is whisk up the jello when its liuid with low carb, low fat evaporated milk and let set makes it a little more tasty then reg jello. Have been on mainly clears and some Soups for 10 days, start mushy next week , so far down 11lb since banding on 12/15

Good luck its not too bad

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
