Can't eat meat

Recommended Posts

Hi All! It has been forever since I have been on here! I hope that everyone had a wonderful Christmas!

So, I can't eat ANY meat. It all gets stuck and I wind up PB'ing it. I chew until it can't be chewed anymore. My doctor doesn't think it is that big of an issue. Does anyone else have this problem???

I have had more problems the last few days too... I wonder if the stress and excitement make everything a little tighter....

I am surprised that you can eat chicken... that is the worst one for me.....

Well I guess I'm over the tight-tight restriction I am able to eat more now with restriction, I had asked my mother which has been banded almost six yrs. she said it could be mucus fm allergies. So I guess that can fill your band b/c mucus is thick. Yeah I can eat chicken more than any other meat. Beef is the worse also anything w/ skin absolutely no hot dogs or smoked sausage:(

I go through stages where it is hard to get my meat down. Stress, dehydration and being overly tired can make me tighter as well as what has already been mentioned--being sick or having allergies that have increased phlegm in your system. I love my meat and have no desire to go vegetarian so I eat softer Proteins during this time...fish, Beans, eggbeaters etc or if necessary I supplement with Protein Shakes. Shredding my meat and adding sauces or gravies helps too but it does add extra calories.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
