Pouch stretch or band slippage

Recommended Posts

Okay question, some people say you cant stretch your pouch on the lap band but on gastric you can, so which is it. If you eat alot of food, but obviously not enough to vommit, which from what I understand, vommiting is what is more likely to cause a band to slip, right??? I ate alot, well not no where like I used to, during xmas eve and xmas day, but man I was so full I was hurting afterwards, like miserable. But never once did I vommit. So could I have stretched my pouch or be worried about slippage???? I really dont have much restriction at all yet, but I cant have my first fill till about 2 weeks from now.

You can stretch it out. I wasn't losing like I had been so they did a fill under flouro and I could tell that it was stretched slightly. I rarely vomited and when I did, it was only a little bit. When I first got banded, I really slowed down my eating and chewed very carefully. I also didn't drink liquids around meal time. Unfortunately, I have gone back to eating quickly and sipping liquids. Now that I'm getting back to basics, I'm feeling those old feelings of restriction.

I have the same fears as you and have eaten to much yesterday and today. I was banded on 12/2 and can't get my first fill until 1/15. I am frustrated and angry with me, but hopeful I haven't done harm to the band and/or pouch.

i don't know who told you that you can't stretch the pouch? While you are on liquids ONLY right after surgery, the odds are slim that you'll stretch it because liquid flows right on through unless you "chug" a big bunch at once. But of course, the pouch is your stomach and yes, that can stretch. Whether or not you "vomit" isn't necessarily an indicator of slippage or stretching.

Having said that, though, until you have good restriction, odds are you didn't stretch it, or at least not too much. Just try not to eat until you're stuffed, ok? It DOES get easier! :tongue2:

Hi! to VAKitten - I was noticing your band date and fill date. My band date was 12/01 and my first fill is 1/16. I too have had concerns about stretching the pouch and slippage but I am feel the restriction. I am not eating nearly what I did b/4 surg but at least I am feeling the full trigger. I will be glad however when I do get my first fill b/c I have heard (a great friend of mine had the band Oct. 2007) that once you start receiving the fills the restriction is much greater and you will start dropping the pounds. I don't know if this helps but maybe we can keep in touch with one another through this journey??? And exchange tips, hints and questions?

Take Care,

Michelle

I'm glad I found this question thread. I was banded 12/18 and have been very good on my liquid diet until today when I blew it! I couldn't resist some summer sausage and am feeling really, really, really full. I hope I haven't screwed my band up. I feel a little bit of pain but am more worried than anything else. Can you tell if you have slippage?

Thanks,

Jennifer

I don't know how you could have eaten summer sausage at one week out!!! You must really love it! I would have chose something better than that!! You had best stay on liquids only the next few days as you probably have lots of healing to do.

Sounds like a lot of us are feeling guilt about overeating the past couple of days. I know I did. I guess all we can do is get back on track and maybe backtrack and redo week two or something!!!!!! Jan 6th is my first fill. Now I don't want to go get weighed!! I haven't been on the scale in over a week and don't plan to go near one for awhile.

You probably should get RIGHT back on the post op diet you were given (whatever that is!) and call your surgeon asap to tell him what you've done and see if he thinks you'll be ok. When we eat our stomachs churn and that could pull loose a stitch (or more) where your band is stitched into place. It could cause slippage now or just weaken things so you slip in the future. I hope you're ok but please call your surgeon and get the all clear (or not) from him. Good luck, and just hang in there.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
