feeling like I am going to fail!

Recommended Posts

I am certianlly not restricted.

I didn't over eat.......... I ate 1 small slice of turkey, and mashed potatos, and green bean casserole. Not once did I feel like i was full.

I am so disheartened.....

So starting tomorrow.......I am back on weight watchers. I am plotting my food out for the week and that is it. I will not eat anything more than that!

Hopefully with the WW and the band and when I get my next fill......... It will work for me!

Any advise please share!

I had my first fill on 22 dec..........

I followed the Fluid only for the rest of the day and the next day and then started with mushy foods......

Does restriction take a while???? I had 6 ccs. Is it the wrong size band???

I am seriously mad that I didn't do the RNY

Keri

I know it is frustrating, but I'm sure you read up prior to banding that weight loss would be slower. 1-2.bs/week being the average. 24 lbs is awesome. Sometimes it takes a few fills before you are at optimum restriction. Hang in there... the weight didn't go on overnight, nor will it fall off overnight either.

There are so many people who say they wish they had gotten the RNY. I know most of the people who had the RNY here have gained back most of their weight. They never learned to change their eating habits. It usually takes about 3 fills to get good restriction. Weight loss with the band is not over night, but if you follow the band rules, you will lose weight, and more important, keep it off.

I was told by my surgeon that it might take up to 6 months POST OP before I felt restriction and started losing weight. I was told that weight loss with the band is slower, but that we lose longer than, say, RNY patients, and that 3 years post op the loss is often comparable. I was told that I would NOT feel restriction until I started getting fills and he started tightening my band. I was told not to DIET but to avoid snacking, following the band rules (regarding chewing, small bites, no liquids with meals) and relearn how I eat.

So if he were your surgeon, you'd be a LONG way from failure.

Personally, I didn't get the band so I could DIET...I have dieted (and lost quite well) about a million times. What I didn't do was keep it off. Now, slowly, my gain train is coming to a stop and I'm losing and it's staying off.

Go to WW if you want, if you think it will help, but don't do it out of guilt or fear because you are doing very well and won't have restriction at all for a while.

I understand your frustration, but it's probably going to take a few fills. Weight Watchers can't hurt through. I'm headed there tomorrow with my husband who isn't banded. I've lost restriction in my band and gained a few too!

Keri, how fast are you eating? I've found that I don't feel any restriction if I eat quickly. But when I slow down, I feel it. You should go to WW because it helps you make better food choices. The combination of better choices (WW), less food (band), and consistent exercise helped me lose 70lbs in about 6 months.

There are a lot of people who follow WW who have banded. There is no doubt that WW is a good plan to follow and they do teach people about portions sizes, nutrition, etc.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
