Recommended Posts

Well I am one week post op and feeling really good except for minor soreness. I am down about 20 lbs from 2 days before surgery which is good. I got up this morning and had put 4 back on I am wondering if Its because of the fact that I ate potato Soup broth last night...made with skim..but it had butter in it  I am worried that when I start eating solids again and the more that I work my way back into real food I am going to stop loosing and gain! What in the world!!!! And how do i get all this Water in.... holy stink! I just dont want to be one of the post ops who looses 20 pounds and thats it! Anybody else have this freak out! Is it legit?!

Weight naturally fluctuates a couple of pounds depending on time of day, and especially after surgery when your hydration is bound to be low. So, the first thing you have to do is stop weighing everyday! Now that you are past the worst part you are probably drinking more and your body is returning to 'normal' hydration-wise.

No more freaking out :tt2: Some soup the night before will not put pounds back on overnight, I promise. Hang in there and know that this is a long process we have set ourselves up for.

Merry Christmas!!!!

Between the liquid diet and my first fill I gained a few pounds. Some of it may be that your body was sick, healing and essentially starving! Everything you eat may sort of "stick." Don't worry though... we need to do the liquids, mushie, soft foods phases to heal the band.

You'll start losing pretty soon, then you won't believe how great it feels. Don't get discouraged!!

I started out really large (405) and lost 42 pounds in my 5.5 weeks preop and 2 weeks post op. THEN once I got mushies (start of week 3 post op) I started gaining and gained back 20 pounds from Mid Sept to Mid November!

HOWEVER from my fill 11/13 (fill # 2) until my 3rd, I only gained 1/2 pound and since my 12/18 fill I've lost 3 pounds. WITH CHRISTMAS! I am not, nor have I since my surgery, dieted at all. I don't weigh, count, fret, or measure a thing. This is per my doc; he says it's gradual, and wants me to not snack, and let the band work. So I'm doing my part by trying to make healthy choices and so on, and now with 4.5 cc's in my 14 cc band, my intake is diminishing and so is my weight. I'm pleased! I like you was quite panicked but he said that he prefers this gradual "turn around"...he feels he's setting me up for success for the rest of my life. In other words, rather than slam on the brakes, we're coming to a gradual stop and turn around!

All I can tell you is I was dubious but didn't get the band so I could "diet", and I DID (and do) trust him. And by George it's working! Hang in there!

I was banded on the 17th and I was told the only thing I could use for the first week for food was broth..Yuuuk:scared2: Anyway my point is that broth has a lot of salt in it. Lord knows it doesnt have hardly anything else but that salt will cause you to retain quite a bit of Water. Youll know when it finally starts coming off. Trust me.

I was banded on the 23rd of December and am still on liquids. Tomorrow I go to Full Liquids!!! woohooo

I've lost about 17 lbs before my surgery, which is pretty great! I figure it will take until the 6 month mark for my body to be healed and my band in the routine of working. Right now concentrate on healing after surgery. Do what your doc says. Stay away from your scale.

:tongue2:

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
