Valentine's Day Weight Loss Challenge/goals

Recommended Posts

Wow,.... This sounds like a nice motivation... 51 days left? hmm... I would like to lose 15 pounds and be down under 240 by Valentine's Day. So, I'll need to lose slightly over 2 pounds per week.... which also means that my 6'3" husband needs to hide all of the chocolates somewhere that I and my handy stepping stool can't reach them.

I'll go for 20 pounds...51 days...I haven't lost much weight in the past week because I've been in too much pain to exercise. But I think I'm okay now and can get caught up exercising on a daily basis and be able to lose more weight. SO - 20 pounds!

Count me in! I am shooting for 15 pounds as well! that should put me at 207  dreaming of onederland!

I just realized that we were both banded on 10/08/08. You have lost a lot more weight than me. How is your restriction? I don't feel any restriction at all. I have about 4 CCs in my 10 CC band. I feel like I am doing horrible.

Ok, there you have it 19 banders are out to lose anywhere from 10 to 25 pounds by sweeties day.

Here are the rules to the challenge.

#1 Get online and share your results with all of us.

#2 Don't beat yourself up if you overate during the last 2 weeks

#3 Exercise at least 2 times each week for 30 minutes of your favorite kind of cardio

#4 Eat something each week that is high sugar or something "special" that you really like..

#5 Drink your Water

#6 Pick out something for yourself that is a size smaller than you are now and put it somewhere you can see it daily.

#7 Finally wear that something you got at the end of this mini challenge

#8 Celebrate the loss of those pounds, for you'll never have to gain them back again!

Peace Out......

I would like to participate in this challenge. I was banded on 11/21/2008 and have lost 20.5 pounds. I haven't lost in two weeks, but will have my first fill of 4 cc on 1/13/09. I am going to lose 14 pounds by Valentine's Day. This will be a great kick start for me after the holidays. Is 4 ccs a good fill?

up to 21 plus myself doing the sweeties day challenge. I have found myself to be more accountable to my weight loss goals if I include myself with others in a timed weight loss segment.

So those who want to join us in our Quest to be healthier and thinner by 2/14/09

Even 5lbs would make my V day special. Now to get rid of all wchocolate oreos and ccovered cherries! Less is more, less is more.....me :hurray:)

Come 1 come all. Please post your progress every couple of weeks. For me this is knowing I have many, many individuals at various stages of their band insertion fighting against the same thing that I am. The battle of the bulge and it always better to fight in numbers than alone.

I find this forum an outlet to express what I am feeling at any given moment and I hope you find the same as well. It's helpful to be able to put in text my progress and Celebrate with others just like you in your victories and failures.

Like today I drank like fish more than I ever have and yet I was still hungry. Hungry enough to have a super small milkshake from Steak and shake - vanilla and boy was it good. I know not on my plan, but I just was like craving it so I got a children's size and enjoyed it.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
