Problems 12 weeks out

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I had my surgery on September 17. I've done really well and have had two fills; the last one 3 weeks ago. But in the last few days, I have had a lot of trouble eating. Most everything gets 'stuck'. I've even come close to vomiting a couple of times. I don't think my band is too full, because this didn't start until well after my last fill. I normally have this problem right before I start my period, but that doesn't apply right now. I'm not the best at taking tiny bites, but I'm definitely working on that. At this point, I'm ready to go back to soft foods and Protein Shakes for a while.

I'm also experiencing painful discomfort around my port over the last week. Since my surgery, I've been 'aware' of the port, especially when I move a certain way. But this painfulness has just popped up.

Has anyone else experienced either of these problems, and if so, what did you do about them? Should I be calling my doctor? Thanks for you feedback.

It really does sound like you are too full. I've seen that happen to people before... okay right after the fill, but then as it settles in, not okay.

I would agree about being overly full. Those are symptoms that you would have from overeating.

Also you might just have a tender stomach right now that might need to be babied for a couple of days. If you are already sore or a little swollen inside, it helps to let your stomach rest. Going back to more liquids and mushies for a day or two is an excellent idea.

I would go back on liquids for a day and then mushies to see if that helps. I would slow down my eating and give my brain time to register that I am full. I would also really chew my food well, once I was back on solids.

Good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
