Drinking after eating and sweet spot or too tight???

Recommended Posts

After eating dinner one night I immediately drank some Water and I felt like I had just swallowed a grapefruit and it was struggling to go down.and then I got the urge to swallow again and the experience was the same...it was painful to say the least. Has anyone else experienced this? Is this a sign of being too tight? Also, when I eat certain things, I sometimes gurgle, but it goes down. Is that a sign of being too tight or is that my sweet spot. I just don't know what kind of feeling to have when I'm at my sweet spot.

I haven't got a band but this happens to sleevesters and bypass people too sometimes. The problem is that my stomach is full and there is no room for the Water.< /p>

I agree with MacMadame. I usually find that I can't drink Water within 30 mins of having a meal - I just don't have the room for it.

I also can't gulp Water down now, it gurgles down. I have recently had a fill though.

I don't know if I'm at my sweet spot either, but I can still eat solids, so I figure I'm not too tight. In my mind, too tight is when you can't stomache anything but liquids.

We are preached to every support meeting not to drink 30 mins before you eat and wait a mim. of 30 mins after we eat but they would like a hour b/c then you have the feeling of being full longer. This is very important.

You felt that sensation because what you drank mixed with your food and then it all tried to go down at the same time. When you drink after you eat it makes your food mushier and slide thru the band faster but it also can clump it into a big ball and then when it tries to slide down thru the band it hurts like hell...if you dont want the pain and you dont want to risk throwing up then I wouldnt drink while you eat!-not being mean but thats why they say dont drink and eat! I did that too in the beginning and got a butt chewing from my doc...some of us have to learn the hard way :tongue_smilie: good luck toya!!

I understand what you are saying. You ate a little to much and you felt you food stuck in your throat and tried to get it down with water and it felt like it didn't want to go anywhere, yea it happens to me. your at your sweet spot. you know that your full and you just have to take that extra bite. yea I know but we will learn.

Oh, I learned my lesson. I wait now to take a drink and I start with a sip.

I drank and it caused no problem and absolutely did not make me hungry much sooner, not for me.

But once I got to the point where I needed more restriction to lose, it went out the window. I couldnt do it anymore, it became hellishly uncomfortable and likely to cause a pb.

Well.... i could always sip wine with dinner or coffe with my toast in the morning - sip it, a teeny quantity. But finish a piece of toast and down a cuppa - no way.

And I once tried to bring on a pb that just wouldnt happen by gulping some Water. I will only ever do that once. i thought I was going to choke to death. And up came the Water and still not the mouthful of spaghetti bolognaise.

I've loosened off again now, with continued weight loss and just time, and I dont need to refill as my weight is holding steady. I can drink properly about 20 minutes after eating these days. And again, I notice absolutely no difference in hunger, if I do it or wait, so if I want to drink, I just do. My doc is fine with it, afterall, I'm not trying to lose weight anymore.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
