Hello I am new to this. I was banded on 6 November 2008. I am doing really well and have had my first fill. All seems to be great on the food front...BUT....

I am experiencing constant pain that radiates up into my neck and to my jaw on the left side as well as into my left ear. On some days it is constant and others it comes and goes.

I have thought, at times, that it was worse when I was 'hungry' or had not eaten for a while. The biggest issue with this is that it waking me up at night. I have not slept through the night since I had my operation. It is starting to take a real toll on me.

My surgeon has not heard of such an issue before.

Has anyone experienced anything like this?

Thank you!!!

I am not sure what it could be. This doesn't sound like the gas pains that most experience. I wonder if there is a nerve being pinched or something.

He wasn't able to offer even an educated guess?

No not really. We had hoped the first fill may make a difference as the pain seemed to be linked to hunger, however, it hasn't made a difference. The biggest issue is the lack of sleep. When I wake up (normally twice per night) if I drink a yoghurt etc the pain goes away......but I am getting over the waking up and not a fan of having to 'eat' in the night.

I am very concerned that there may not be an 'easy' non invasive way of dealing with this.......

Thank you for your reply.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
