Hi all - I was banded Friday am the 19th. So far so good, everyday seems to get better with how I feel. But I am hungry!?! Can I stretch the pouch with liquids bc I am hungry & I have been drinking a lot!! I am on full liquids. But I can drink a cup of broth in 5mins no problems & still be straving 30mins later:( Also do you know when this cling wrap stuff falls off? My port also seems like it's pulsing sometimes>? just wondering if it's all normal/safe? feeling loopy too from meds. But all in all I am so thrilled I have done this for myself & pray I keep feeling better & better. Any tips or suggestions would be super - thanks. I know I also have no restriction until first fill in a month.

As long as you aren't chugging a gallon of Water or some such then no, you won't stretch your pouch just drinking liquids. It flows on through (like Water through a hose)...you don't have restriction (or probably not much, if any) except whatever swelling may be present following your surgical trauma. As you heal, that swelling subsides, and you are still "wide open".

As to being hungry, call your doc. It's very important to follow the diet he or she gives you, and not to follow anecdotal advice. One thing I've learned from this place is that every surgeon seems to put his/her own spin on every aspect of this surgery and banded life, and it's important that you do what yours has found works best for his/her patient population. Mine, for example, didn't allow ANY Protein for the first 7 days. Tell your doc you're starved; they may advance you. Don't feel bad; you won't be the first!

Thanks all for replying!! I am thinking that I maybe mistaking hunger with gas pains!?! I haven't had a bowel movement since thrusday (1 day prior to surgery) and I have a killer stomach ache - going to call this morning. So maybe those "hunger pains" were really gas.??

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
