Both had it done-One of us regreting it!

Recommended Posts

My siter-in-law and I were banded the same day (12-16). I have had little problems and am feeling pretty good for a week out. My sister-in-law is having a real hard time recovering and is almost regreting the band. I feel so bad for her and want to help her. She says she just isn't feeling back to normal yet. She is having alot of gas pain all over. Constipation problems. And just an overall yucky feeling. How long does it take some people to get back to normal? how long can the gas stay in your body and cause pain? I want her to know she isn't alone and it will get better but I need facts. Any ideas?

Thanks:frown:

Sorry to hear about your sister-in-law. Tell her to hang in there - it definately gets better. Give it two weeks and she will be felling much better. Gas will be gone and she'll be good to go.

Yeah, its not even been a week yet....I felt pretty good after a few days, but it seems a lot of people need 2-3 weeks to start feeling better. Tell her to hang in there and to walk a lot.

She'll come around. Let her know general anesthesia is a central system depressant (hope that's the right term). I was told I could be out of sorts for the 2 weeks it takes to clear out of your system. Plus day 1-7 sucked for me and was an emotional rollercoaster.

I am feeling much better now and very happy I had it done.

I had a harder time than some when I was recovering. My gas lasted 2 weeks, but eventually I got better and am so glad I did this!!! You might have her call her Dr to see if they can help with the Constipation. I didn't have a BM for like a week after surgery. Tell her what everyone has been saying, that it will be over eventually and she will be even better than normal!!!

Thanks for all you ideas. I knew this is probably normal. She will pull thru this and feel great. I just need her to hear she isn't alone in the problem. thanks again to all of you and Happy Holidays.

28_4_9.gif 8_2_85v.gif get Gas X strips for the gas pains. It helps a lot. Also walking helps with the gas pains. Good luck to both of you on your journey.

In another week or two she will feel so much better. Tell her just to hang in there a little while longer.

I've never heard of people rejecting the band. But I can imagine that the problems you are describing is because she hasn't had a bowl movement and that can make people feel gas, sore, and constipated. I recommend you buyer her a big bottle of milk of magnisia that stuff works! I was just banded on 12/18 and I every day I take MOM I feel so much better!

hi i had my lapband done at the beginning of july and i can say i was sick for atleast a good 3 to 4 weeks. i also felt very depressed especially looking at my stomach with all the incision cuts. couldnt believe what i did to myself to lose weight. but here i am now 66 lbs lighter (and i worked for it pretty much daily at the gym and a personal trainer 3 times a week) i really was down alot and didnt know why did it afterwards (plus all the pain and sickness didnt help much with the depression) but now i dont regret it it gave me the strength to progress and taught me how to eat right and also excerise. so i understand how she feels and you just have to tell her to keep her head up and and bare through it i know its hard trust me i was right there in july but now im fine i can do anything anyone can do and hey the other day i went to the mall and tried on a size 10 jeans and it FIT. (didnt look to great on me but i could button them lol) but im a size 12 for now and i will only get smaller. and it is so worth it..

I am just over a month out of surgery and only recently got my energy back. Also, don't be surprised if you should start feeling a bit yucky here and there. It is all part of healing. Good days and bad days.

But now it is all good days, as long as I don't eat too fast!

My surgery was 11/25/08. It took a good 2 weeks before I had any energy at all and another week or two to feel normal. (My sister had gastric and felt fine in a week. To be fair she has this weird pain tolerance...natural child birth is fine but getting eyebrows waxed is a major thing.) She should not be used as a yardstick by anyone.) Everyone is different but, in my experience, it can take some time to bounce back.

Everyone recovers differently. Tell her to be patient, this too shall pass. It took me all of 2 weeks to feel like a halfway normal. My first 2 weeks I second guessed myself and thought what in the world have I done to myself. Now, 3+ months out I'm feeling great and have a steady weight loss. Tell her to keep her head up, be postive and everything will be alright.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
