How much time off work?

Recommended Posts

I know some people said they can go back within a few days, but I needed all the time I could get! I had surgery on the 18th and was back at school the 28th.

I had 10 days before I had to be at work, and I was on a sort of "light duty" in that it was just meetings and things (I'm a teacher) and school hadn't started. It was STILL hard for me and I could have used more time!!

Turns out I had an infection and that was part of the problem- hopefully that won't happen to you!

I took five days off of work. I was banded in Mexico so I had to add some travel time. I work at a University, so I sit behind a desk most of the day. The first two days I went back I only worked half a day, sitting up straight bothered my port sight and I got tired pretty easily. Luckily I have a job that I can leave when I need to.

I was never in extreme pain, just uncomfortable when getting up and down. I only took two pain pills after surgery, though I did stay one night in the hospital and there I got pain meds through my IV.

If I had a job where I were on my feet a lot, I would have taken more time off.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
