Hey Carolina Mom, I too have the magic bullet and I love mine too. I mix vanilla Protein mix with a very small bite of Bannana. It is so yummmy. I think that is the best investment I could have made for myself. I am also getting banded on the 8th of January in Raleigh, NC Rex Hospital.

We started the journey about the same time. I am also 45. I live close to Charlotte, NC. I love my Magic Bullet. How long did you have to do liquid before your surgery? We are going to Hilton Head on Wednesday I hope I can wait until we get back to officially start the preop part.

I've been approved!!! I'm soo excited ,and thrilled I can not contain myself. I really thought there would be something with my insurance that would stop me ,but NO everything worked out Great!!! The office manger sent my paper work out on Dec.22nd ,and was approved on Christmas Eve ,the office was closed and since it was a long holiday weekend .I received the words APPROVED !! this morning . I grabbed my 4 year old grandson and danced around my living room full of happy thoughts and tears of joy .I couldn't stop kissing him ,the poor baby had to tell me "easy grama ,easy. " I haven't felt this good on so long,I can only image what I will feel like in the months come . I have AETNA POS and I must say I have no complaints about them .Congrats to everyone on their up and coming NEW BEGINNING. Happy New Year !!!! What a great year this will be.

It is a great feeling to get the Approval. I was like you so excited. I went to my doctor on the Dec 22nd to do the H-pylori repeated after being positive on the first one. It was negative this time. The insurance person told me they would send it this week. I called insurance just to check on another claim and the girl told me that I had already been approved. What great news.

Carolina mom,

I really can't not get over the thrill of knowing that pretty soon I'll be a slimmer ,happy and most of all healthier person .Everyone in my family will benefit from this ,cause when mom's not happy I make it known and then they have to deal with me (LOL). I was so surprised have fast this went for me I started on Sept.28th 2008 ,I had to do 3months of going to the doctors and all the specialist ,but I got it done NEVER EVER did I think it would happen so fast .I don't know that date yet ,because when I called the surgeons office just to see if everything was sent and told the Wonderful news.I asked when ,and Ann (the office manger ) told me they would call back with a date because the doctor was in surgery as we spoke . I waited all day at home hoping he would call he didn't .That's ok ,I know this is going to happening now it's just up to him (Dr.Pucci). What ever time or date he gives me I'll be a happy camper . Congrats to you and I send you good wishes and hope to hear from you on how everything is going for you .

Hi everyone! My surgery date is January 15th - SO excited!! Hopefully my husband will get his date soon too!

I am having it done at Baystate Medical Center with Dr.Haag -- who does not require any type of preop diet - strange!! I think I might do something on my own starting two weeks out though.

Hi fellow January bandsters! I am getting my band on January 19...I think I will rename it later.....maybe looooove band! I am hoping it will give me the confidence to be a hot wife again! Like I was 12 years ago when I met my Husband. Bless his heart he has always loved me any size! I keep thinking about 2009....shopping, photo's, swimming pools, shopping......and oh yeah, feeling better and being healthier. I know that's really why we all want the band but the other stuff that we are going to get out of it will make all the shakes and pain worth it! I am getting banded in Kansas city by Dr. Hitchcock of Malley Surgical fame....good luck to all of you and have a great new year! Let's all keep in touch! Cara:thumbup:

Hi, I'm getting banded on Jan. 21, 2009. After one appeal and one denial I was finally approved on Dec. 18th. My two week liquid diet starts on Jan 05. I'm a little nervous about that. But determined to succeed!

Started the whole process March 2008.

Good luck to all of you.

I guess I will be staying overnight when I have my surgery, cause of the machine. I don't really mind that because it gives me more security in knowing I will be in good hands ,and be able to relax (4year old grandson at home ) lol who just loves to climb on me ,and us my stomach as his personal pillow . I guess I'll have to buy him an extra soft one now (LOL). Well Please let me know when you find out your date and time .

CarolinaMom, I only need a two liquid diet before my surgery.

I am getting excited. On Monday the 5th I have to go the hospital and pre-register and do my finial check-up with my last visit with my doctors. After that is just sit back and wait for two days. I know what I will be doing and that is cleaning my desk off at work. I just hope it is not to much from the Holiday break.

Hi to all,I'm new to the January bandsters sight with a January 26th date.I was set to have surgery on December the 8th,I was at the hospital with IV in and i went in to atrial fibrillation and the Dr. was afraid to take me in to surgery because of it.The Dr. wanted me to to see the Cardiology again before we try again.Long story short,I saw the Cardiology Monday and she said that i will always have a-fib and she will tell the Dr. what to do if i do it again.I was very let down because of this, and a part of me was scared to try it again because WHAT if it happened again? But the Cardiology put me at ease when she told me it is not a problem to have surgery with a-fib you just need to know what to do if it happens again.SOOOO January bandsters, you are my new family, and i cant wait to get to know all of you,and to share all of our ups and downs. And to see how good we will look by next Christmas. So now i have to go threw the 2 week fast again before surgery.Last time i lost 15lbs:thumbup:I guess that wont hurt me any ;) Kerry

Wow we have quite a group going here! Thanks everyone for sharing! I know a couple of you had surgery today, and I hope it went well! Keep us posted!

Only a couple weeks left for me...eek!:tongue2:

I start a four day liquid only diet on the 16th, and I still have to meet with the anesthesiologist and do preop labs next week and then I'm done! I'm going to my doctor's support group meeting next Tuesday, so if I get any helpful tips I'll pass them along.

Take care everyone!!

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
