How have you changed since being banded?

Recommended Posts

I suspect most of us are not at goal yet, but I think evaluating the ways your life has changed already can help motivate everyone to continue striving for success. This is an about me post. So please, tell me about yourself, how your life has changed, how you have become stronger, wiser, or even more pessimistic if that is the case. So, how has your life and yourself changed since getting banded?

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

<o:p></o:p>

My life has changed in numerous ways:

<o:p></o:p>

- My employees at work seem to respond to me better, I’m not just the B**** in charge but actually someone they want to speak to.

<o:p></o:p>

- I have ADHD. I think actually that hasn’t changed but no one ever knew it- who thought someone who was overweight could have ADHD? I hardly ever moved! But that’s wrong, I did move- I moved my hand from the plate to my mouth, over and over and over.

<o:p></o:p>

- My relationship with food has changed. I’m still addicted, but not nearly to the degree I once was.

<o:p></o:p>

- I have a neck! I’m quite proud of this fact. My triple chin is gone, double chin nearly extinguished and I have a neck, and bones. Who knew?

<o:p></o:p>

- I don’t dam up a bathtub when I lay down to relax

<o:p></o:p>

- I don’t get winded walking through a shopping mall

<o:p></o:p>

- I can exercise!!

<o:p></o:p>

- According to my eighteen year old sister, I’m generally ‘more fun’ than I used to be.

<o:p></o:p>

- I have less hair (I cut it all off)

<o:p></o:p>

- I can type better and play the piano better because my fingers are thinner

<o:p></o:p>

- I am happier.

I worked a ten hour day, in retail, yesterday....when I got home I was tired...but my back wasn't killing me, my feet weren't killing me and I still had the energy to go grocery shopping!

I am happier and that shows through in everything. I'm lined up for a promotion at work, my relationship with my hubby is even better than it was....

Oh, and I look a lot better too!

• I'm more social now. I used to be very social, but at my heaviest was suffering from some social anxiety. I am feeling better and looking to start dating, meeting more people, etc! (This is making me happy!)

• I feel better, have more energy and WANT to be moving! In fact, this week snowed in has been so BORING! I just want to get out and walk around, exercise, move...

• My piggiest days are like my better days before the lab band. I still have days when I over eat, but not in one sitting- more like over eat over the course of the day. I'm still working on that, but it's better.

• I look a little better in my clothes.

Not having to shop at Lane Bryant is a huge thing for me (anybody else find it ironic that Lap Band and Lane Bryant have the same initials?). Last night I went shopping and a store in our mall is closing so everything is super cheap. Before, I wouldn't have even gone in because nothing would fit. I got a few tops that fit me now and 2 pair of jeans as goals. All of these were less than $5 each. No way would Lane Bryant have anything that cheap. And I felt like a "normal" person shopping in a "normal" store.

Another change is how much more active I am. Today I actually ran up the stairs at church and I was wearing wedge heels. I wasn't even winded. I was in shock!

One more thing... I love that I don't eat to the point of misery like before. I went to Olive Garden last night with some friends. I had some salad and then just a few bites of my dinner. I was done and felt satisfied. I didn't feel the need to keep eating like before. Everyone else was groaning they ate too much by the time they were done. I just smiled.

I'm so much less tired than I used to be which means I'm way more efficient. The house is cleaner, the ironing is done, the bills are paid, there's food int he fridge, all tht stuff that I used to let slide out of laziness.

What I havent done, that surprises me actually, is start buying really expensive clothes, lol. I still just think designer stuff is a huge waste of money when half the time you can find the exact same outfits in Target. DH is pleased about that one.

I've got a funky haircut! I was always too insecure to cut my hair short or layered or do ANYTHING with it, now I've got this really funky short at the back, long at the front sharply angled do. It was slightly longer yesterday, and I cut it really short in the back and I've not even spent four hours in front of the mirror obsessing and crying about it like I did last time I had short hair back in my teens.

I've never really had a "hobby" like my running before either and I've really enjoyed having a long term thing like that to keep working on.

I am happier and healthier.

I have more energy.

I am so glad I had the lap band done.

I am not at goal yet but that's okay because I know for certain now that my weight will only go down.

I am in a size 12 from a size 22.

I have more confidence in everything I do.

People treat me differently - they talk to me more.

YEA! I love who I am. Thank God.

Dolores

I cut my hair short too! I forgot that part. My hair has been long since I was 10 years old and when I lost about 60 lbs, I went and cut it ALL off! Sometimes I miss the long hair, but not much  I'm happy with it short

Wow, I am no happier, more fun, in no less pain, no more social, etc.

Boy, I got the short end of the stick.

Nah, my weight never defined who I was - or any part of who I was/am. I suffer from a back injury in Desert Storm and I was really hoping and PRAYING weightloss would help ease that pain -wrong.

For me, I take up less space and I am seen less at drive thrus. That's about it.

Hopefully I'm no less fun than I used to be or less social. Happieness is the same.

For me, I think the biggest thing is the way I view food. I used to obsess about food and stuff my face like there was never going to be anymore.

Now when I see my someone with a huge plate of food, I think omg...how can you eat that much! Funny thing is, I could have ate that much and more with no problem before the band.

What's great is my portion size has changed not only in my tummy but in my head as well:smile2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
