nillie 0 Posted December 21, 2008 My surgery is scheduled 1/19. I can't wait to start my preop diet, because right now I feel like I can't stop eating. Every time I turn around I feel like I am eating:cursing:. I keep telling myself it is a case of nerves ( gee, think I could be a emotional eater, lol) I have tried not to buy the easy snack foods, but with Christmas cooking going on, and a tall 6ft plus 140 pound teenage son in the house, I do have to have the carbs around. Anyone else hit with this stress eating?:tongue_smilie:
Jodi_620 37 Posted December 22, 2008 I think that what you are going through is common. I did the same thing and I had my surgery in the spring...I can't imagine having to contend with all the holiday goodies too! I have seen several posts of people that overdo it as surgery approaches it has been labeled "Last Supper Syndrome" on this site. We know that our days of "pigging out" will end soon and it makes us want to try to get it all in now, while we still can. The more bad carbs you eat the more you will want. Your pre-op diet will likely help you to break that cycle but it will be hard if you have the bad stuff in your house. Your growing son does need carbs but the highly processed sugary stuff is not good for anyone and I recommend that after the holidays you get that stuff out of your house. He certainly does need the fresh fruits and veggies, whole grains and dairy but the rest of the stuff can safely go. This is an opportunity to get everyone in your house on a healthier track. nillie 0 Posted December 23, 2008 thanks for the reply Jodi. It is nice to know someone is listening, and even been there before. I am so anxious to get this done, I wish it was Jan 19 already.
MaureenJohnson 0 Posted December 23, 2008 I can relate! We are at my in-laws for the holidays and my surgery is three days after we return. I will have jet-lag and nerves to deal with. What is you pre-op diet? My German doctor's instructions are vague and I want to get a handle on this. my surgery date is Jan 8. I feel confident in my doctor, and I know several people who have gone through him, but I want ot know exactly what I should eat!
Peanutband 0 Posted December 24, 2008 I too can relate to this. I am also getting banded on the 8th of January. I wish I can stop my eating everything in my house. I just don't want to gain any more weight before my surgery or my doctor won't place the band on me. Does anyone else have the same feelings or concerns. nillie 0 Posted December 24, 2008 Maureen, My preop diet starts just one week before surgery due to my BMI being 36. It consist of being on liquids strictly for the week before. If I was 37 they put you on liquid diet for two weeks before. I have already started doing yogert smoothies for Breakfast, one's I make at home with plain yogert, milk and fruit. This has been the longest month of my life, I do believe.
joannelh 0 Posted December 24, 2008 HELP!!! I am being banded on jan 2/09 and started my pre-op diet 5 days ago. It wasn't going too bad - I'm restricted to 600 calories per day - that's 3 boost and some veggies. I haven't been perfect on it, but have definitely cut down my calories by at least 2/3 and have not given in to any seasonal goodies - until today. I overate tonight, feel physically uncomfortable and totally ashamed and scared that now I won't be able to get the surgery because my liver won't have shrunk enough. I was just so damn tired of being hungry and not being able to eat. And I suppose emotionally, I felt empty too. Has anyone else cheated like this on their pre-op? I'm scared that if I cheat now, I'm going to fail at losing weight later too. I'm feeling really low and defeated - questioning my ability to succeed at losing weight even with the band. Jodi_620 37 Posted December 24, 2008 If you get right back on track it is unlikely to have caused any problems.
nillie 0 Posted December 24, 2008 Don't give up. If one thing I learn on my life of dieting, that one time of cheating is not what ruins it, it is giving up with that one time and consuming everything in site. Go back to your preop dieting, stay strong. We are all in this together.
Peanutband 0 Posted December 28, 2008 Nillie you have given me some hope also. I have been thinking of given up and I am going to be banded on the 8th of January. Joannelh, I know what you are going through because I am right with you. I am thinking of backing out of this all together. We can't go backwards. We must stay focus on the reason why we are doing this and keep moving forward. If you can I will too!
voiceomt2002 4 Posted December 28, 2008 I had so many problems with both stress eating and the holiday food, we took drastic action and divided the foods. We have two refrigerators and two pantries, so we put everything I could have in the refrigerator and pantry closest to my home office and locked everything I can't have in the others. My DH and roomie have the keys to the locks, but I don't. It worked very well! The guys can get to the carbs they need for their physically demanding jobs, and I can't get my greedy paws on the holiday treats. Admittedly, it's close to hell on earth to watch them devour the foods I can't have, but when I can't take it anymore I go for a walk or at least leave the room. :tongue_smilie: It's not a perfect solution, but it worked for us. travelinsnorkel 0 Posted December 28, 2008 I didn't have to do a pre-op diet and I unfortunately treated every day like it was my last and had many "final" meals. In a way it was good though because I was sick of a lot of food by the time my surgery came up! Good luck!
MaureenJohnson 0 Posted December 28, 2008 I am on day 2 of my pre-op. I am supposed to have liquids and fresh fruits and vegetables. I have been making "soups" so far but I don't know how many calories I am getting. I am making it up as I go along. Wish me luck. Thanks Nillie for the response.:tongue_smilie:
cjmtexas 0 Posted December 29, 2008 I am on day three of my two week preop diet. The first day was the day after Christmas and it was hard but it has gotten better. I am sure that by the time my surgery date 01/09/09 comes I will be sick of green vegetables and fruit. My preop diet consists of 2 protien shakes and two "real food" meals fruit and whole grain for one and meat and green vegetables for the other.
GlenSand 1 Posted December 30, 2008 Hi all, my deal isn't stress it's the last supper thing. I am going to be banded on 01-06 and I can't stop eating everything! I am right there with Travelinsnorkel. I have no pre op diet and I didn't even get a raised eyebrow from the doc at my 10 lb weight gain in the last month. I am really looking forward to the surgery and then the liquid diet so I can finally stop eating! I hope it all goes well.
