Getting motivation back...

Recommended Posts

Well lets see...I have to be honest with myself..I haven't been following the rules very well lately and that's probably why I haven't lost the weight I need to lose. Hubby went to Iraq, my son got expelled from school and my in-laws are a pain in my ass. I am not on a very good sleep schedule because I miss my hubby being in bed with me. I cant trust my son at home alone to do his online schooling so I have to sit at the computer and watch him the WHOLE time. I haven't been to the gym in about 2 months since hubby left and my son got into trouble with the law again and violated probation.

The gym is my sanctuary where I can think and be alone and just relax and taking my son to the gym would not be relaxing..he stresses me to the max. He lies to cops and filed a false felony statement and he was only 3 wks away from being off probation when he got expelled. So I have to take him to court in two different counties because he was going to school in another county (I drove him to/from high school everyday so he had better educ.)where he got into trouble and then our county where he violated probation. So I haven't been really motivated to do anything but lay around and just veg out. I did go to the doc and he prescribed me the little metformin pills that I can swallow and they arent ER so if you have ever been on metformin you know what it does to your body..so I'm running to the bathroom alot as well. I not only have pcos but insulin resistance too REALLY BAD!!!

I want to get motivated again but it's so hard.:tongue_smilie: I'm thinking about recommiting after the 1st of the yr. Since hubby changed employers to go overseas we had to change insurance and this insurance doesn't cover fills so have to shell out $150 a fill..thankfully I'm close to my sweet spot. I've been pbing alot and it comes with ALOT of pain. So i'm here looking for encouragement AND see if anyone else has dealt with the motivation issue since being banded???

blessings to all

Wow, it really sounds like you're having a rough time over there. I understand how it is to be away from your husband for a long time, mine was working out of state for about 4 months. At first, I was depressed, moping and unmotivated, then it occured to me that I could use those weeks and months he was gone to transform myself. By the time he got back I had lost 20 pounds and he was loving it ) I'm sorry that you're missing so much sleep. That probably has something to do with not being able to exercise like before. You need a way to get that excess energy out. Since you can't take your son to the gym with you, maybe you can start doing physical activities with him, which would be a win-win situation for exercise and bonding. He may be resistant at first, but my bet is that he is really craving posive attention from you. Try taking walks/hiking/biking/throwing a ball or something together. To help you at night, try sticking with a regular sleep schedule, spay your pillow with relaxing smells, take a warm bath, meditate/pray, read a book (a really boring one), while you're in bed, instead of recalling the negative events of the day try to focus on at least one good thing that happened. If you can't think of one, just remember that there are people who love you and are concerned about your well-being.

As far as your in-laws, the best advice I can give you is to make your foe into your friend or avoid the old cooters.

Your son might be acting out because of your husband's physical absence. You didn't mention how old he is, but I'm assuming he's around 15 or so. Teenagers are hard to raise, I'm not a mother but I'm a teacher and was a teen once myself :scared2:) I think your son probably knows you're disappointed in his choices, but still needs to know that you love him and would probably like for you to be proud of him. He needs to know that he is not an honored guest in your home, but a member of the family, who has to work like everyone else. His job, as a child is school and to help around the house. Maybe there are mentoring programs in your city like Big Brothers that could pair him up with a male role model while your husband is out of town? Something that always boosted my self-esteem was doing charity work. You know what his interests are... if he likes animals, maybe he could volunteer at the animal shelter, walk a sick/elderly person's dog or helping out at a veterinary clinic. If he likes nature, he could pick up litter in the park or help an elderly person with their garden (maybe even make some cash). Kids will live up or down to the expectations we set for them. I know you love him, just make sure that he knows that as well.

Again, I'm just throwing out some ideas and thoughts running through my mind. I'm no expert, but really feel your stress and concern. I hope you can use some of my advice, and if not, just know that someone out there is praying for you. I wish you and your family all the best :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
