Banded 12/18 Not hungry

Recommended Posts

So this is my third day after the band and I'm still not hungry at all! If I even start to think about drinking broth or juice or Jello I feel so sick! Did anyone else have this problem and how long does it last?!

I would say that's not a problem but a blessing! :tongue_smilie:

I "came to" in recovery, starving and thirsty! It should go away slowly as your stomach heals and any swelling goes down. Until then, enjoy it!

Enjoy that while it lasts. Once you lose the internal swelling from surgery that will most likely change... For me it was about day 5 - but by day 7 my hunger was raging. Some people are lucky and don't experience bandster hell - most are not so fortunate.

By post op day 7 I was starving and could eat whatever I wanted. My surgeon does not require you to be on a clear liquid diet after surgery you can start on pureed food right away. Now I'm 5 1/2 weeks post op and ready for a fill on Monday.

I was also banded on 12/18! I am not very hungery at all. I'd say I've had less than 500 cal per day since surgery. I hope it stays that way!

I 'm one day ahead of you and still feel that way, my band must be having some kind of restriction, I am only barely beginning to feel hunger and I'm filling up fast.

When your hunger does start to rage (you'll see soon enough)... Call your doctor and request to move on to the next food stage. MOST, not ALL, will allow you to experiment with test foods. Just proceed with caution.

In a couple weeks you'll wish you'll forget these days you are not hungry!! I wish I was still that way at the Christmas party I was at today!! It was horrible being around all that food and having all the appetite back along with the cravings for all the the goodies I have been so good about staying away from. And, having all that stuff right in front of me!! I will be glad when all of these Holiday get togethers are over!

I was "sick" feeling for about a week. Then I wrestled with am I hungry or am I nauseous? That lasted about another two weeks. Then my good life kicked in. I have great restriction without any fills. I was banded Aug. 4 and have lost 31 pounds which is AMAZING for me! You MIGHT be one of the lucky ones that has restriction from the beginning. No rhyme or reason, just lucky. One thing that is more challenging for someone who has restriction right away, we don't have a grace period to gradually learn what works with our bands and what doesn't. Baptism by fire!

Thanks for all the info! Hopefully this nausea thing will go away. I'm still stuck on the clear liquid diet. I feel like I could eat something but I'm so sick of broth and juice! I tried some milk this morning and it went good! I can't wait to move to the next week...yummy soft baby food type stuff!

Good Morning Everyone!

I was banded on 12/16 and I have no appetite. It will be a week tomorrow and I think I have only had 2 Protein shakes and 3 Protein Tomato Soups total. I have been sipping on Water and diet tea. I have found that popsicles has been my best friend thus far. When I do try to eat my Soup I get full like half way thru. I am also adjusting to being able to feel the liquids go down. If I drink alot, I can feel it sitting there and then going down. At least this is what I belive. I don't know if it is all in my head or what, but something defenitely feels different. Thank God gas has beeen minimal for me. I have walked and taken gas X strips since coming home. I did have a bad case of contispation yesterday. I want to eat but have no desire to eat nor can tolerate too much. I know I need to eat because I don't want my body holding on to fat from lack of calories. I don't know. I have a follow up with my primary doctor tomorrow. We will C.

12/18 for me!

I'm not very hungry either. I'll think that I am, even feel a growl in there, but can't tell if it's just some of the lovely gas I'm still dealing with! SF Popsicles and fudgsicles have been my best friends so far.I'm soooo over broths, and Tomato Soup which is a favorite of mine didn't even taste good when I tried it!

My drs office called this am and told me to begin fat free yogurts without fruit chunks and thin oatmeal with cinnamon or jelly mixed in,sf puddings.... I'm working on the oatmeal as I type...funny I've never really chewed this stuff before...it's interesting...feel better soon everyone!

Hi - had my surgery on the 19th Dec, and I'm still on Clear Liquids. Today is the first day that I'm feeling hungry - and I'm planning on starting on some fuller Soups and yogurt tomorrow. Glad to hear that the rest of you are doing well - I was surprised to read that some people don't have to stay on liquid diets after their bands?! I thought that was standard. Anyways - I'm hoping that this hunger doesn't stay with me too long - I'm just going to go and get some more chicken broth.< /p>

LIke the others said, enjoy it while it lasts. Once the swelling goes down, most lose restriction. By the time you get on solids and eat the amount they tell you to, you're starving in about an hour. I was banded early November, had 2 weeks of liquids that went pretty well and then 2 weeks of softs. But toward the end of that 4th week and when I started on real food, I have spent most of my time hungry. A HUGE thanks to all on this forum who've helped me understand this is normal and temporary. Just prepare yourself, because I didn't and it was torture. Good luck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
