Getting banded Dec. 30th!! Pr-op Liquid Diet, HELP!

Recommended Posts

I finally got my surgery date of December 30th and I'm on the pre-op liquid diet.< /p>

THey said I can have sugar free Jello (no red or orange), slim fast/protein shakes, and a small chicken breast at night if I need it. Did anyone eat the sugar free jello pudding for this stage? IF anyone could offer some insight as to what they did, I'd greatly appreciate it!

I was not put on a pre-op liquid diet until the day before surgery. However, I do eat the Sugar Free Chocolate pudding. In my 2nd week post-op I used it as a snack to hold me off between meals. If you are use to eating things that are fat-free, or sugar free, then the pudding should not be a problem to eat.

I did my pre-op diet in two stages. 1 week of liquids only. Much like what you described and the week before surgery was Clear Liquids only. So only broth and Jello, although they said nothing about red Jello. It sucked and I was pretty hungry...However, after surgery I wasn't really hungry until about 6 weeks out. (bloating and such)

Hope this helps a little.

Hey Girl!!!

Congrats on getting the band! :wink2: I hope it all goes well. I just got banded December 18th myself.

My pre-op diet was 2 weeks before my surgery. I had to drink 2-3 Protein shakes a day and cut out all soda, carbs, and sugar. They wanted me to eat lean meats and as much green veggies as I wanted. But remember, ever doctor is different--so just because I ate this doesn't mean that you should.

Here is what I can eat now though!

ON stage I (2 weeks after surgery):

Protein Shakes (2-3 times daily)

*I highly reccomend the Adkins Dutch chocolate or Strawberry*

Snacks (2-3 times daily)

Some examples are:

-Baby food (I like banana)

-sugar free, Fat Free pudding (I like Jello brand)

-Sugar Free Jello

-broth (I just drained the chicken Noodle Soup)

-Sugar Free popsicles

-Applesauce (be cautious--wait until you're gas is gone because it can cause it)

-Light Yougurt (I like the weight watchers brand, because it cannot have chuncks of fruit in it).

I hope that helps!! But just remember every doctor is different, so follow your Dr. Instructions!

I hope it goes well!!!!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
