Banded on Dec. 17th

Recommended Posts

I was banded on Dec. 17th. I did not have to do a pre-band diet. On the 16th, I was on Clear Liquids, I only had sips of Water on the 17th so by the 19th I was starving. I drank way to much. I still feel sick today. I guess I don't have the knowing when to stop down yet.

Congrats on getting banded!

I think all of us are having to relearn how much we can eat or cannot eat and what we can or cannot eat. I know tonight I ate to much yet it still seemed so little to me. Big thing to remember is sip your fluids and small bites and chew chew chew when eating solids/mushies.

Hi,

I was banded on 12/16. I have a little residual pain under my one incision still but other than that feel pretty good. I am concerned about the scale at one point i was down 21 lbs but now I am only down 18 lbs and I really do not know why other than going to soft soft mushies and eating very little of it. Would my body be hanging on to weight now that I am eating a little more? thoughts?>

Hi Angie,

Congrats on your surgery! I have slowed in my weightloss with the mushies phase also. I am finding it to be one of the hardest phases because it's just difficult to know what to eat that is healthy and suited for weightloss. To me the suggestions my surgeon gave for this phase just feel so completely opposite of everything I was doing before the mushy phase. But even still I have continued to lose with losing 5.6 lbs this last week. One key is drinking lots of Water and another of course is getting out and walking every day. One thing that we have to remember is as we increase the calories consumption we need to increase the exercise to continue to burn off more then we consume. I hope this helps. Best of luck!

Hi Angie! Are you drinking enough Water? I know that can be a big key to see the numbers on the scale. With all of the fat we are losing, you need the fluids to flush it out. My nutritionalist said that I will need to drink 48 - 64 ounces of fluids a day. I've only lost about 7 pounds since the surgery, but I know that had I not had the surgery, I would have easily gained 5 over the holidays, so in retrospect that seems pretty good.

Thanks for all your support. I think that there are two major things that I need to do drink more Water and get out to walk~ I have definetely not done these things yet. I see my Dr. tomorrow and he is to clear me to start exercising; as I pulled a stitch and had to take it easier. But the water is something that I can start today! Yes, we are back home from the holidays and I did not gain and I did not lose so that is a win in my book! I really appreciate your support! I am down 21/5 lbs.! Take Care~

Hey Angie,

I was banded on 12/16 and I thought the same thing. I thought that because I was not eating enough, my body was holding on the the fat. I have to admit that I cheated on Christmas day. Lets see I had a little Cornbread Dressing, a small slither of choclate cake and the insides (no icing) of some German Choclate cake. I also had a wated downed glass of wine. I was shocked to see that I actually lost weight. I was just hoping for maintaining even though I stayed on track the rest of the week making sure I got out and walked. I lost 4.2lbs. I only think that had I not "cheated" It probably would have been more! oh well! before surgery it would have been a gain of 4.2! I decided before I had this surgery that I would stick to the guideline and make a lifestyle change, but at the same time I will not deprive myself. With all things due in moderation. I am still human and they did not cut my tastebud out. I am happy I am down 23 pounds so far!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
