Driving After Lap-band

Recommended Posts

I am being banded on the 30th and have a huge job interview 8 days after being banded where I would have to drive 3.5-4 hours. My doctors info says you can drive as soon as you are up to it. Can anyone give me any insight on what you felt like. I have read so many different things on the internet. One guy said he flew a day after surgery where some people take 3 or 4 weeks. I have had 5 previous knee surgeries and if weren't for it being the knee I could have drove the next day or two. Looking for some help. By the way my wife is working and cannot take me.

Day 8? I felt okay. Take a test drive the day before and make sure you're about a day off the perscrip pain meds.

You need to check with your surgeon. You'll probably feel fine and won't be taking the "heavy duty" pain killers any more (although a caveat...some few people do have longer recoveries) BUT....there may a problem with being sedentary for that long. Depending on your health situation, your surgeon may want you to get out and walk around like 10 minutes every hour or something, to prevent clots etc. If your surgeon clears you, I'm sure you'll feel up to it!

My doctor did not allow me to drive until 7-days post op. And that was the time I was really feeling great. I drive two hours a day for my job and I felt fine doing that. No pain.

If you have to drive for a longer period of time, and you have your doctor's permission to do so, then take breaks and stretch your legs. It is not good after surgery to be stationary for a long period of time. You are at risk for blood clots in your legs.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
