toots2008 0 Posted June 10, 2009 Hi Moonbeam, I am not sure if it is my sweet spot. But I have been loosing around 12 lbs each time I go, and I still have emesis sometimes after I eat. So Dr Bracken said I still don't need another fill. I have about 5 12 cc in right now.
mandine 0 Posted June 17, 2009 hi there, i'm having my first consultation Saturday at Maples Surgical Center. Any advice? I'm very confused and the cost is really the only thing discouraging me.
mimi5757 7 Posted June 17, 2009 Hi Mandine, I understand what you mean about the cost.... you have to weigh...pardon the pun....your options. I know that most of us here have done every weight loss program out there....lost and gained back the same pounds.... sometimes plus! I for one really think its about time that this kind of surgery was offered through Manitoba health! Make a list of all your questions and concerns and talk to the docs about them during your consultation. The docs at the Maples are very patient and understanding about all our concerns. Good luck! :wink2:
mimi5757 7 Posted June 17, 2009 Good news! I am finally feeling some restriction! WHOO HOO!! Who knew one could be happy with this uncomfortable feeling LOL!

moonbeam 1 Posted June 17, 2009 hi Moonbeam, I'm currently at 5cc's. I go back in July for more.....well hopefully I'll see by then if i need more. Thanks mimi! I'm happy for you! How long did it take to get there? My last/first fill was 1 1/2cc and I'm worried I'm going to have to wait 3 or more months just to get somewhere close to feeling any difference. I have not lost any weight in the last month. Do they go up by 1 1/2 cc everytime or did they ever give you more than that?
Guest tracyzap Posted June 18, 2009 i'm very much interested in this, but haven't actually contacted maples yet. did anyone get their surgery covered by their insurance, or manitoba health? and what did everyone pay (around) how much are follow up visits, etc.
moonbeam 1 Posted June 18, 2009 Hi Tracy, I did not have my surgery covered. As far as I know lap band surgery is not covered in Manitoba. Maples charges 18300 approx. Follow up visits for up to a year are covered by this, as well as consults with the dietitian and the psychologist. Good luck, let us know what you decide! mimi5757 7 Posted June 18, 2009 Hi Moonbeam, I think my first two fills were 1 and a half cc's and the next two were 1cc each. Its taken me 4 fills to get to 5cc's. My weight loss since surgery has been slow....but as far as I'm concerned any downward turn on the scale is a good thing! I'm looking forward to better results in the coming months now that some restriction has kicked in. I would have liked to be one of those who had immediate results with minimal fills but alas that was not to be. I am VERY optomistic that I will be a much thinner version of myself a year from now

I Wanna Be a Loser 0 Posted June 19, 2009 (edited) Hello, I stumbled across your Manitoba Lap Band Messages while trying to get some information post surgery and thought this would be a cool place to talk to others from the same location who also shared the same clinic and doctors. I survived the 2 week pre opt diet shakes from hell - which I think is just ground up chalk that has been liquified - and was banded on June 9th. I have been taking the eating very slow and am a little apprehensive about diving in too quickly as I did try a few things and like some of you, thought I had swallowed a golf ball. The surgery pain surprisingly has not been that bad, it is the sleeping on my back that is going to kill me - I tried flipping n my side the 1st nite and pulled one of the staples which caused one of the incisions to leak a nice amount of blood - so much for that shirt! (I won't sweat it thought 'cause it was going to be a future "fat shirt" that I would not ever wear again, LOL). Thanks alot for posting about the shoulder pains - that was helpful - I did not know it was gas - but was in agony every couple of days because of the shooting pains. I am just waiting for the staples to come out - but very nervous and was wondering about the pain factor - some of the incisions are still quite tender. Can you let me know? Looks like June 20th is the big day for alot of you - maybe I will run into you at the Maples - that is staple removal date for me - at 10:50 am. I am very excited to get started and hope you don't mind me popping in from time to time to check on your progress - I get inspired by other people's successes. Cheers! mimi5757 7 Posted June 20, 2009 Hi Want to be a Loser, I think you'll find that once you get the staples out that you'll feel soooo much better. I waited 3 weeks to get them out and they were so itchy. Once they were out most the discomfort disappeared. My shoulder pain took awhile longer but eventually eased as well. I was surprised to hear they do fills on Saturday.....I thought all the fills were done on Tuesdays. I guess this has to do with the increase in clients the clinic now has. It's actually fun getting to chat with others on "fill day".
moonbeam 1 Posted June 20, 2009 Hi All. It was nice to see some of you today. Want to be Loser I agree with mimi, once those staples are out you are going to feel SO much better. Definitly keep us posted on your progress!
I Wanna Be a Loser 0 Posted June 21, 2009 Thank you so much for yoour kind word of encouragement - I really appreciate it. I survived the staple remove after an anxious nite of worrying - did I mention I was more nervous about the removal than the actual surgery. I had vsions of the agony and pain that was soon to come my way as the Dr attempted to dislodge them from my gut - and before I knew it they were out - and I only felt a slight pinch. BTW - did I mention I have a really overactive imagination? My next hurdle will be the fill in 4 weeks, where, I just know the needle will be at least 2 feet long and filled with 10 cups of saline! I am a small bit of pain - one of incisions is giving me a bit of grief - just stinging - and I have some of those wonderful gas shoulder pains. I keep thinking this will pass soon. I had a 2 sips of a sparlkling lemonade today and thought I would die - so bloated and gassy! Not gonna do that again anytime soon! I did have the pleasure of sharing the couch next to Canada Girl who I recognized from the previous postings, who was talking to 2 other ladies about their fills. Mr Fish was just being finished in the OR and was doing fine for all you interested. CHeers
