Anyone less than 2 weeks away??

Recommended Posts

Hi Ladies! I am new to the site, found it while surfing the net. I have my LapBand surgery scheduled for Dec 31st. Yes, New Years Eve. I made it before we switch insurance carriers on Jan 1, 2009. Now I have to figure out who will watch my boys when I am in the hospital because my hubby cannot get it off.

Anyway, anyone close to surgery? We could share our experiences together. I started the liquid diet Wednesday and I am about to die! Let alone I have the next two weeks off, plus Christmas. I don't know if I can stand it. I want food so bad. I see food now I didn't even knew existed. (Since when did they have guacamole Doritoes???) LOL.

I would love to converse with others who can relate!

Jackie

Hi all

I thought I would be banded in the first week of the new year. But!!! I have to see my Surgeon on Jan 7 th, i believe that he will want to discuss my gallbladder; which i have stones. My Dr. may want to remove my gallbladder before he puts in the band. He has stated in at a group meeting that if you get a gastric bypass then he would remove the gallbladder then but if you get a lap band then it would have to be 2 separate surgeries. I am afraid of what he may suggest at our meeting. I have come this far and I still want the lap band!!! I know I not ready for the gastric bypass; just too much!!!

Good luck to you!!!

Kim

Thanks everyone for the support. I am getting nervous. One week from today. I am trying to stay busy and not think about it. Is hard enough sticking to the liquid diet, especially over Xmas. One thing I learned from this forum is everyone's experience/doctor/diet/recovery is different but its nice to read the spectrum! Happy Holidays everyone!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
