If you've lost weight, how much exercise did you do to get there?

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering for everyone out there that has lost a good amount of weight and has been continuously losing or is at goal weight - how much did you exercise, what kind of exercise, and is there anyone out there that didn't exercise and still lost? I am just curious what everyone's experience has been.

I was banded 11/17. I lost 14 lbs pre-op and 21 since. A week after surgery I started walking 20 minutes a day increasing a few minutes a day and have been doing 35 minutes since week 3. In another week I can start doing more than that.

Like you're dong, I built up to it and i started before surgery by doing 40 minutes or so 4 times a week on the elliptical.

Once I had surgery, I was walking the day I got home from hospital - about 3 months out, I cautiously tried a short jog. from that point I jogged 3 x per week for another couple of months, and then once I started competing in fun runs, my running improved and increased very fast, by the end of that year I had a five times per week running schedule of between 4 and 10kms a time.

I continued mainly with running for the following year, and even ran as far as 15kms at times.

Now, at 3 years out, I do two hour long circuit training sessions with quite heavy weights, an interval training session (40 minues, about 8kms, working at HIGH intensities) and two longer slower runs of about 10kms each week. I take 2 rest days but on those days I might walk 10kms or so with DH.

For me, aerobic exercise only was plenty to get the fat off and I did build muscle and get firmer. Now I've been at goal for 18 onths, I have other goals than weight loss, but I'm doing more strength and hard training to get rid of the last of the fat, get stronger and become a better runner.

I think that my "secret" was that I never bought into that fat burning zone guff. Low intensity exercise will bring pretty low intensity results over time, I've always worked a bit harder than that at more like 80% of max heart rate - every workout is pretty exhausing, but as you get fit, you recover very fast too.

I had to exercise 6 days a week. I have a very slow metabolism and if I didn't exercise, there is no way I would have lost or kept losing.

I did the stair master, walking/jogging on the treadmill, and the eliptical machine anywhere between 30-60 min per day, as well as weight training. Building muscle will

make our bodies burn more calories even at rest.

Im walking over 3 miles a day usually. I lost 9 lbs preband to add to what it shows on my ticker. I walk at a good pace.

Took me 6 months to lose this much though. Havent been dieting, eating the same way as before I got the band mostly.

Your ticker doesn't seem to be working.

Well drats, mine either. LOL Must be something wrong with Ticker Factory's website, haha. Nevermind!

Well, I'm still a work in progress, but I can tell you that I lost the first 35 pounds with very little exercise. I thought this was going to be a cakewalk! Then... well... it all came crashing to a stop.

So I started riding my bike moderately but the weight loss was a slow crawl... Then I joined a gym and started doing Spin classes. Whoa! That's when I found out what intense exercise means... I thought I was going to die for the first 3 classes. Then it started getting easier and I had to push myself harder with more resistance. And now I do 5-7 spin classes a week, combined with a small amount of strength training. I went for my 5th fill last week and had gone from a standstill to losing 17 pounds... My fitness level is getting better every week and my heart rate recovery time is falling consistently.

I'm with Jachut on this... You have to challenge yourself. If you walk 2 miles along the same path all the time - your body will become efficient at doing it and you'll no longer get the same result. The harder you work - the higher the result - plain and simple.

This is my first post on this site. I was banded in June; I have lost 50 pounds so far. I work out quite a bit. I find the weight just doesn't come off for me unless I am at the gym 3 or more times a week. I do one hour classes; I average about 4 days there per week.

For me, classes are ideal because I don't like to work out. The classes are always different and I won't leave or quit in the middle if I get tired. If I'm on a treadmill, I tend to not push myself very hard. At first, I found myself modifying quite a bit of what the instructor was doing, but now I can keep up pretty well.

I have a skinny friend with a heartrate monitor thingy and she burns around 600 calories per class. I figure I'm probably doing close to the same...I'm bigger so I burn more than she does, but I'm also not quite able to do as much of the high impact stuff she does yet...

I try to work out at least 3 x a week. Also, meet with a trainer for an hour per week. She helps me with the machines and free weights at the gym. I can tell you I am no athlete and hate exercising. But per my trainer if I can do at least 3 days of cardio will help. She's right! Although she's toned me up..slowly, I can tell the inches are disappearing. So the treadmill and aerobic classes are my thing. :-)

I am down 75lbs since being banded 9/17. Its all about the workout. Cardio twice a day and weights three days a week. Maybe I gotten a little faniatic with it, but hey i figure if I am gonna let someone cut me open and stick a band around my stomach I might as well do my part. The exercise guy at my clinic stresses weight training because mucle burns fat. Good luck to all

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
