PamE 0 Posted December 19, 2008 I thought I knew sooo much about the Lap Band after all my research and waiting almost 2 years before finally getting it. I was banded this past Tuesday in LA by Dr. Carson Liu and now I have a million questions...Wednesday night I swallowed a pill and it got stuck (Dr's office did not tell me to crush the pills) about 3 hours after swallowing the pill, I wake up thinking I'm having a heart attack. Pain very high up in my chest area, collar bones, neck and upper back. I thought I'd need to go to the ER. sat upright for a couple of hours sipped diluted fruit juice and finally it subsided. Today my mouth is watering and I'm nauseous. Any suggestions for the nausea? I think I need a Mentor? anyone interested? Pam
bethm 0 Posted December 19, 2008 I'm too new to this to be a mentor but I'm happy to help as much as I know how. Your doctor should have given you a perscrip for anti-nausea medicine. (I got something or other in suppository form). Call and request it, you want to avoid throwing up. Have on hand at home Zantac (for acid reflux), gas-x (for you know...). Is the nausea coating your mouth with a fine film? Because I confused acid reflux with neasea. I had it 1 day in the past 9, called doc in a panic. He said to get some zantac. Don't hesitate calling your doctor any time during your healing phase. Anyone reputable probably won't mind since you (or your insurance) paid so much for this and they want you to heal well. In the meantime maybe try to sit up straight as you can and sip Water (making sure you aren't going to huck it up) and try to relax. It will pass.
HeatherO 7 Posted December 19, 2008 My doctor did not give me anti-nausea meds and did say I could take pills if I drink a full cup of Water immediately after. You must still have plenty of swelling (or taken a huge pill) if you suffered so much for it. There is a medicine called Nauzene that I got over the counter at Walmart and have also seen it at my local grocery store. It is a band friendly, cherry flavored chewable tablet (kind of like a Tums) and it works like a charm. I highly recommend it. Any other pills should probably be crushed for now if you have to take them (or maybe split). Being so newly banded, you might have additional swelling from the pill getting stuck and may be a little tighter than before. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.
