i was banded 7 months ago and have lost 35 lbs.

I really started slowing down in the weight lose.......so, in the meantime my surgeon started me on phentermine.

He told me that he puts about 40% of all his lap band patients on this medicine about a year out of surgery......he thinks it gives you that little extra push that is needed to keep going when things are slowing down.

He also put me on it because i started out with a lower BMI than most bandsters do.....im not losing as fast as some. Im really hoping that this med does the trick!

I have been on Phentermine for a week now, and have lost 6 lbs! It totally takes away the hungar...TOTALLY! I have to force myself to eat 3 small meals. Since then too...i have also had my 6th fill.....i am at 7 cc's in a 10 cc band....AND....i think we have found the "sweet spot"

I can only eat about a cup of food....the restriction is great now!! This is what i have been praying for ever since my surgery in june!!

I think with my restriction being right on, and starting the Phen....im really gonna start losing!! Keep your fingers crossed!!!

I took phentermine before being banded. It does feel the same to me as far as controlling hunger, but that's it. I hated phentermine. I couldn't sleep and I was very moody. Plus it stopped working after a few months. The doctor actually told me bandsters are not supposed to take it because it can cause your band to erode. So you need to be careful. I wouldn't want to take it anyway. That's one reason I got the band so I don't have to take diet pills anymore.

Phentermine... it is a wonderful little pill when you first start taking it. I took it for almost 2 years straight.. not recommended. I did manage to lose 95lbs in 1 year, but i just wasnt eating. I used to grind my teeth horribly like a drug addict, and my resting HR on it was 116. After the first year on Phentermine my body grew tolerant to it, and i was no longer losing... i was stuck at 168 going days without eating at all. I asked my NP at the time to up the dose from 30mg to 37.5mg, the highest does they make of it. I was taking the 37.5mg pill for almost another year with no weight lose, i was actually gaining. when i completely stopped the pill i gained 76 of the 95lbs back. That is where i am now. My current PCP does not care for Phentermine because of the cardiac side effects. I think Phentermine may be a good thing if taken for very short periods of time, but nothing of length as your body may because addicted and tolerant... just my 2 cents.. hope it helped!

FenPhen and Phentermine are different. Phentermine is 1/2 of what FenPhen is... the other half is Fenfluramine, The combination caused aortic and mitral heart valve damage, and was taken off the market.:)

Yea, phentermine is ok for a few months, but any longer than that and it is not good for you. They told us at the nutrition class to throw away the diet pills and never use them again. That is part of the old way of thinking and it doesn't work.

Has anyone tried Phentramin? It's a newer version of Phentermine minus all of the yukky side effects. Here's the link if anyone wants to check it out. I've heard (from neutral reviews *not* on their website) that this is good stuff. Phentramin-D Reviews - Diet Pill Reviews of Phentermine Alternatives I'll have to check with my doc and see what he thinks.

I had very bad experiences with Phentermine and with Meridia. I am not going to post those here, but just offer a word of caution. If you think it is not working for you, get back in to see your doctor. For me, no amount of weight loss is worth taking amphetamines. I don't think that is true for everyone out there, so by all means, if it works, keep keepin' on.

I agree. I don't mean to be rude, but why would you want to take diet pills if you have the band? If you are at good restriction, you shouldn't need diet pills.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
