First Fill - not bad at all

Recommended Posts

My first fill was yesterday, 6 weeks to the date. I was numbed up, which felt like a bee sting, but it went instantly numb. He found the port easily enough, heck, I can find it just by looking down when I'm standing on the scale. But actually getting the needle into the right place was a different story. The was quite a bit of jabbing and pushing and trying this angle and that angle. At one point he was angled pretty much south of the border, and I wanted to remind him that those were not ports down there, thank you very much. Finally the needle found paydirt. He removed what was in there, 2cc, and then filled it up to 3.5 cc. I'm going back in 3 weeks for another fill, because he doesn't think I will notice it much. I was supposed to be on liquids for 24 hours, but this morning I had a Kashi bar anyway. I'm not noticing any difference. So to all of you coming up on the first fill... worry not, its not bad at all.

Thank you for sharing. I go have a fill on the 23rd and am a little anxious about it. My doctor intends to take me to 4cc and I am hoping not to have any problems, especially since it is right before Xmas and I am not sure he will return calls on that day :huh2:

I had my first fill today. He had me lay down, lift my feet up, put my hands behind my head and hold a partial sit-up. He had trouble getting the needle in. He poked around several times and had to switch to a longer needle. It hurt a little but it was over quickly.

My band was empty and he put 2cc's in and asked me to be on Protein Shakes for 3 days. I'm hungry already, but sticking to liquids. My next fill is Feb 3rd.

It sounds like you were tightening your stomach muscles. I asked if I should do that when he was poking around, but he said no. I think it might have helped, and I will probably do that myself next time.

I had my first fill yesterday with a very similar experience. He had to stick me a few times, had trouble getting the needle to penetrate the port...lots of poking, lots of pressure. The needle finally went in when I tightened up my abs and pushed back against the needle. I had 3 cc in from my surgery and he gave me another 2 cc for a total of 5 cc in my 10 cc band. I go back in two weeks for my next fill.

I got my first fill yesterday. When he stuck me the first time he told me that the band had 1cc and that he added 4 more for a total of 5cc. BUT, I wasn't able to swallow Water so I had to get poked again when he let out 1cc. This morning I am able to drink...but verrrry slowly. It is going to take some getting used to.

The best news is that I have lost 20 lbs since surgery!!

I had my first fill yesterday and it was fine. He found the right spot the first stick. However, air got into the syringe so I was only able to get 3.5 cc's. On liquids today so not sure if I have restriction or not. I have to wait 6 weeks until my next fill. Hope I can loose some weight because I have been at a stand still for at least 3 weeks now.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
