Just started 2 week pre-op liquid diet

Recommended Posts

I hear ya!

I found the liquid diet to be torturous. It didn't matter to me that it was only for two weeks. And I didn't have to do it over the holidays...just Halloween.

Doing the liquid diet over the holidays is incredibly difficult. You know why it's important and that's why you'll do your best to stick to it.

You're doing a great job. Good luck with your surgery!

Hello Everyone on PREOP DIET.....

My name is Yvette. WOW.....2 weeks? That is hard! I thought 7 days was hard for me! Well, This is day #4 for me and although I have not been perfect I've already lost 4 pounds. I'm excited about it and looking forward to my band on 12/30. I do want to mention for those of you who are curious as to what others are doing as far as what they eat or should I say drink. I'm not allowed any meals that aren't liquid.< /p>

Breakfast - EAS Advantage Protein Drink or whey Protein shake, then a yogurt

lunch - another Protein Shake, cream Soup, sometimes cream of chicken, Tomato, or other cream based Soups, then I can have a Jello pudding.

dinner - cream Soup, then I can have Jello, and if I want something later before bed and ice pop.

I know it doesn't sound too exciting. Trust me, not having Christmas Eve dinner with my family (who is Cuban/Puerto Rican) was SUPER tough! I did survive though!!! Hope this gets better. Not having carbs is the hardest part for me!

Welcome D and good luck on the 30th! You are lucky, I can't have ANY creamy Soups, no Tomato, chicken, or brocolli..just straight clear broth and Protein shakes.

I noticed that I am irratable, lightheaded and despite all the liquids, constipated. Miserable. Wed. can't get here fast enough. Keep us posted after the big day!

Can you all believe that after eating Christmas eve at pizza Butt and then my overeating yesterday at Christmas, I LOST 1 lb? How flipping whacky is that? I just dont get it. I try and try and barely drop a pound. Then I screw up badly and lose? Ugh..go figure.

Today is my first day

13 days until surgery. I am going to do this. I want nothing to stand in my way of getting banded on the 9th. It's going to be he** I know that but after surgery I am going to be on the same kind of diet until the surgeon says I can start increasing to the mushie stage. I figure it will prepare me for that.

I can have up to 1000 calories.

jackie you are doing great.. the surgeons know we need help & that is what they are going to do for us, my surgeon told me, NOT to put weight on, but it was OK to stay at same weight for surgery & a BONUS if i had managed to lose some before surgery..

They did tell me if i was to come for surgery weighing 14lbs heavier then they would NOT operate , as i wouldnt have tried to help myself a LITTLE...

so give it the BEST you can & im sure you will be FINE..x

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
