Surgery Postponed

Recommended Posts

[[WARNING: Intro is potentially WAY TOO MUCH INFO!!!]]

I had been a little concerned about the rash on my right panty line that seems to be a little on the yeasty side, but I figured it was far enough away from the site of banding incisions that it wouldn't matter. :frown:

I arrived at the hospital this morning at 5:15 and got all prepped for surgery, including the IV hookup and a heparin shot in my belly. The Medical Fellow, Jennifer, came in and asked if I had any open sores, cuts, or scrapes. I showed her the rash and she immediately sought out my surgeon. :crying:

Gersin came in, too one look below the belt, and said "Dont think I'm saying this to be mean or because I have some golf game to get to-- there's no way I can operate when you have a yeast infection there. And what you thought was folliculitus looks more like MRSA to me. I'm going to order an IV drip of Diflucan, give you a tab to take once daily for the next six days, and have the nurse swab your nose to test for MRSA." :blushing:

I'm going back in to see him Friday @ 8:30 and then getting banded December 23rd @ 12:45pm. I cannot imagine waiting all morning without food or drink. I'd be MISERABLE. :crying: Maybe I'll take benadryl to knock me out til we leave for the hospital.

I am SOOOO bummed. You have NO idea! This will be a 3-week pre-op liquid diet by the time I get banded. My nightmare DID come true- in my hospital gown and ready to go into surgery, only to find out the doctor wouldn't perform it for one reason or another. UGHHH!!! Foreshadowing. :mad2:

The good news is the Diflucan IV has worked wonderfully! It's still a tiny bit red, but mostly better.

ohhh no... my heart sunk for you when i saw the title to this thread.. :blushing:

i always like to look on the bright side of things, so here's what i thought of:

-think of all the weight you could lose on your OWN on this long pre-op diet! plenty of people do this diet for 3 weeks... so can YOU!

-you got to do a test run of your surgery. next time you'll know what to expect

-well... at least you are getting your yeast infection cleared up. this reminded me of the grossest joke i have ever heard in my entire life (but so appropriate): what do you call an anorexic girl with a yeast infection?

.....a quarter pounder with cheese! ahahaha ahhhhh

okay hopefully that cheered you up, even for just a second. chin up! dec. 23 will be here in no time!

Hahaha! Gross! That reminds me of this girl in highschool who slept around way too much. My friends would call her a "grilled cheese". Eww! I'm not gonna elaborate on that one!

Luckily, my yeast is on my pantyline, at my thigh/under that belly roll below my navel (I have one of those?! What?!) not internal! That would suck worse!

Turns out, tho, I DO have MRSA. Nooo!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
